So, we lost one phone and reported it ~ Tmobile suspended the number.

Today I finally got a hold of someone and we were able to get my daughter a new phone with her old number. The new phone is on the way... the number is reconnected.

What is going to stop someone (if they have the old phone) from using it?

See More: Does this make any sense? Are we okay?

    Nothing

On a GSM Network you cannot stop anyone from using another GSM phone therefore to answer your questin ur daughters old phone can be used with any T-Mobile number

    You are absolutely fine

    You are absolutely fine.

GSM Phones (Tmobile & Cingular) do not require activation/deactivation of the phone per se. Everything is in that little SIM card inside the back of your phone. That little chip is the "key" to your phone and contains all of your information.

So, when you lost the phone and contacted Tmobile. They deactivated your SIM card. The phone you lost is still usable, however, you will not be reponsible whatsoever. In other words, they had detroyed the "key" that contains your personal information, so when whoever uses that lost phone, they will be using their own "key"

I hope that makes sense. I personally think it's BS that United States GSM carriers locked their phones. When you travel to Europe or Asia, those phones are unlocked and therefore you can buy a phone anywhere and use any wireless carrier you wish. This would create a new market for cell phone sellers, which the carriers (Cingular and TMobile) don't want happening! ANyway, that will be another topic.

Thank you for the reply, what I find weird is that they are sending us a new phone but we dial our number (the new phone is keeping the same number) and it answers with our recording!!!

    You must be a newbie

Actually, you do lose data with the GSM Phone. Like I said, all of your information is stored in that SIM card, so when you lose the SIM card, you lose the data. It's like losing a computer disk.

The reason why when you dialed your number and you heard your recording is because the voicemail system is run by a central system via Tmobile and not your phone. So, it didn't matter which phone you use. You can use a landline to call your number and still get the same recording.

When you contact Customer Care to have the service stopped technical support stops the service in the system preventing unauthorized usage, when you replace the handset you give the new sim & imei number on the same account with no change in your mobile number and no change to the rate plan again the lost phone sim & imei will remain disconnected

Also it means wireless (something) protocol or something like that just means you can surf the web or wap from your phone if the web sites are small enough like mine!! www.geocities.com/griffzan187

Wireless Application Protocol, standard for accessing the internet with wireless devices, e.g. mobile phones.

The Samsung e315 handset does offer access to wap-based Internet sites but you will need T-Zones the feature that allows you to do so on the account which is at 4.99 per month
