We added my daughter to our T-Mobile plan April '04. Since then she has been swamped with text messaging charges to the tune of $50 some months (1000+ messages at .05/ea). Yes, some are legit, meaning there are actual phone numbers from her friends associated with them. But the majority are lumped together in the span of a couple minutes. For instance, on the T-Mobile bill, there may be 4 messages at 7:11 PM and another 4 listed at 7:12 and so on and so on. Of the 4 for each minute one will be listed as "A O L Builtin" and the other 3 are listed as "Incoming". All reference the number "4690" as the destination, not a true telephone number. She never gets any real message on her phone other than the identifiable ones from her friends, so there's no readable message that can be associated with this "4690" destination code. I have spent countless hours with AOL and T-Mobile technical help and no one can explain what this is or how to control it. The only offer to help is to have me spend an extra $10.99/mo to get unlimited messaging. This does not cure the problem, and why should I pay for these unwanted messages?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Exactly right, my sister has the same thing, as I wouldn't touch aol if my life depended on it, you best bet with a teenage or pre-teen daughter is to get her unlimited text messaging, you could yell all you want but now that her nubers registered with her buddies aven if you ground her from using her phone the text messages are going to keep comming.

You have two solutions to your problem:

    1) Take the phone away from me. It won't solve the problem with your text messaging charges, but it'll sure teach your daughter a lesson!

    2) Open up your wallet and pay the $10.99/month for unlimited text messaging. (This is the only real solution.)

My daughter had the same problem. T-Mobile was no help. I ended up logging on there sight and using their filters. That helped so my daughter no longer recieves text messages from anyone. As soon as this plan is up, I'm switching to a new carrier. T-Mobile was great while I lived in DC but here in Colorado Springs they are by far the worst carrier. Verizon or Sprint here in come, in about 5 months.
