I recently got an additional account with Tmobile so that I could take advantage of new customer discounts on a cell phone (so now I have two accounts, until I cancel the old one). The catch is that it has a new phone number.

What I'd like to do is transfer my old account's number to the new one, then cancel the old account, so that I can move on with my new phone, and my new contract, without changing numbers.

I call it "number migration," because I believe that is the correct term for moving numbers between accounts within a single network.

Can this be done, and if so how?

(or am I screwed, and do I need to simply accept that I have a new phone number now?)

    Thanks for the help

Call t-mobile and see if they can add the number to a family plan, and then before the 14 days is up cancle (don't mention this to them) because you'll be renewing your contract you my be able to get out of the early termination fee, this is only a theory and I haven't tried it so other than that you may be screwed, unless you can convince them your going to a country that doesn't carry t-mobile service.

cancelling the old plan is not an issue. It is already month-to-month, and I can cancel it at any time. All I want is a way to keep the old plans number, and also the new phone that came with my new plan.

Wow i want to do exactly the same thing as you. Unfortunately all my research has pointed to this not being possible. I read somewhere that you cannot port a number from two accounts on the same service. Also here http://www.t-mobile.com/switch/checkeligibility.asp If you put in your number it will say it is not eligible to be ported because it is already a t-mobile number

Good news! I called Tmobile and explained it to them. They actually did it! I think I must have had a particularly nice customer service rep, because she seemed to go out of her way to make it work, and she told me it was a very strange request...

Just call em up and tell them that you want to change your phoe number and close the old account you are transfering it from.

Be careful... Make sure that if you port your number it wont void your rebates. In the fine print it might say that this is so.
