My contract for T-Mobile ends pretty soon.
I want a T809 as my next phone, so I'm going to be making a new contract with T-Mobile. Is there any way I can keep my old phone number even though I make a new contract?

Bflip, thanks for choosing T-Mobile for another year. I'm sure you will love the Samsung T-809.
Keeping your same phone number is the easiest thing. Your current phone has a SIM card. Your phone number will follow your SIM card no matter where it goes. So when you go get your Samsung T-809, tell the rep you're going to upgrade your phone. He'll ask you what phone you're interested in, tell him you want the T-809. He'll give you the option of doing a 1 year or 2 year contract extension. Choose whichever is option is best for you. Once he rings up the T-809, you'll simply remove your SIM card from your old phone and insert it into your new T-809 and voila!!! You get to keep the same phone number.

Oh, so instead of actually getting a totally new contract, I can get a contract extension and just get a phone upgrade?
If this works I'm going to be so happy...
EDIT:
And T-Mobile OWNS!

To almost any wireless industry employee,
"new contract" = "new activation."
A new activation would have meant a brand new phone line, brand new phone number, and a $35 activation fee.
That would have meant that you would have gotten a T809 for $300, plus a $35 activation fee, and you would NOT have gotten to keep your old phone number.
Based on what I've been reading here on the forums, it appears that people may have had experienced reps who say that the only option is a 2 year contract extensions. This option is up to you to decide, but you do have the option of doing a one year extension. PM me if you need any help deciding.
The only time a 1 year extension is NOT an option is if you're monthly rate plan is lower than $39.99 (for individual lines), or lower than $59.99 (for FamilyTime Plans). In these cases, only a 2 year extension could be done to get a discount on a phone.

hello everyone, first time posting here. i have had tmobile for the past three years and i am really happy with them, but i am sick of my phone, its been great (Samsung E715) but i want to get the new samsung t809. i was thinking about upgrading but if i were to upgrade it would cost me 250 with a 2 year extension or 380 without a contract! Then i went to amazon and noticed that after mail in rebates it would only cost 70 bucks! obviously thats for new accounts only. So i was thinking about canceling my account and establishing a new one. only problem there is i would lose my phone number that ive had well over 5 years. so i was wandering if anyone had a solution for me, i really dont care how i get the phone as long as i can get it for less than 100 bucks and keep my phone number. ive heard two options mentioned, dont know if ever work 1. some websites like a1wireless allow you to port your number to the same carrier, i dont know if it works, so if anyone knows let me know. 2. some people suggested switching to cingular for 30 days (trial period) and then switch back to tmobile, dont know if that works either. so if anyone knows if either of these options work, or if theres another way, i would truly appreciate the help

grizzglory, you should also have the option of doing a 1 year contract extension. This option is available for customers who have a Single Line rate plan $39.99 or higher for at least 11 months, or FamilyTime rate plan of at least $59.99 or higher. Call customer care at 800-937-8997. Corporately owned T-Mobile retail stores are starting to really push the 2 year extension as well, but can also do 1 year extensions. The T809 should be anywhere between $300-$320 on a 1 year extension. Personally, saving an extra $50-$70 is not worth doing a 2 year extension to me. I'd go with the 1 year option.
If the T809 is the phone you really want, you're going to have to sacrifice a lot to get it for less than $100. And to be honest, the amazon deal sounds to good to be true, there's gotta be more to it. Obviously, you'd be losing your phone number that everyone already has. You'd also pay a $35 activation fee. You may wanna check contract length of the amazon deal. Also, any trouble with the T809 purchased from Amazon will have to be handled through Amazon (good luck). If you are still under contract, you'd have to pay the $200 cancellation fee.
Last, if you are not under contract you are free to cancel. However, you are given a 3 month remorse period to come back to T-Mobile. Within 3 months, your old line gets turned right back on and you continue using your old phone. Therefore, you'd have to wait 3 months AFTER cancelling before you could get that amazon deal.

umm yea i have a question... i kind of have a simlar situation... except i have a family plan of 4 phones (a630s). but when i joined tmobile i used a site like intelenetwireless.com (where the fone is free with a contract/be careful its a tricky process, but i got my money's worth). anyhow my contract is up but i asked around and some people said i have to be a new customer of 3 months (away from tmobile) in order to get the phones free... any ideas? any ways around this?
