USA t-mobile phone w/ t-mobile UK sim card question

I'm going to the UK soon and plan on using the pay as u go tmobile sim card in my USA tmobile phone.
Does anyone know if I can set this up BEfore i leave?
I put the sim in but since it isnt top upd im not sure if it works. I tried registering with mytmobile uk but they texted me the pin but I never got it. and since i cant log in without my pin, i cant buy credit to top up.

SHould I just wait to try and make it work when i get to the uk? or get a diff sim card?

i have a tmobile razr, if that helps any.

What you have to do is contact T-Mobile Customer Care and get the phone unlocked to work with any provider. If the phone is not saying "Insert SIM" Or "Enter Unlock Code" then more than likely it has been unlocked. You can always call and find out. They do have an international Customer Care Number, which I cannot remember off the top of my head right now. Ask for it when you call (It's free of charge from your T-Mobile phone).

What exactly is your phone doing?

I'm not sure how your situation should work, but I can tell you that when I put a new O2 SIM into my phone, roaming on Rogers in Canada, I got the greeting SMSs and was able to top up the phone from the handset. Very impressive. The only difficult thing to do without going broke is setting up the voicemail. I'll do that once I get to London.
