For the phones that are Wifi Enabled (Dash, Wing, Blackberry 8820, etc), is the wifi completely free? Meaning if I am in range of a router, do I access the internet completely free or do I get charged in terms of minutes?

I've been a bit confused about this feature, because I know on some phones, they charge you to access wifi which is essentially charging you to have the ability to use the internet which you've paid for...

Also, other than the ability to access the internet and have various "smart" capability, these phones are no different than any other correct? (my unlimited text plans, etc all stay intact?)

Thanks for answering my questions. Do you guys have any recommendations as to which one to get? The Blackberry 8320 seems like a pretty solid phone...

Yes, the Wifi is free. The internet is between you and the Wifi provider, at no point does it go through T-mobile, so at no point could they charge you for it.

That's the logical thing and what seems reasonable.

I was doing a lot of reading and I was getting this same response (completely free), however, I recall hearing about how lots of phones are "wifi capable" however, you need to pay a fee for it to be "Wifi enabled" (Complete myth?)?

I also called up Tmobile yesterday, and the guy was telling me about 19.95 internet packages, and as far as he knew, internet was never free...

But if it's free, could I use a smart phone for email if I'm in a wifi zone?

I have used free internet with my work phone and a tmobile provider. My brother got sucked into that $20 deal and then found out he didn't really need it.

i was wondering if any of you knew how to use the tmobile internet plan on a non t-mobile phone.

i recently signed up with tmo and unlocked my cingular pocket pc and am now using it with tmo. i'm paying $19.99 for pda internet usage with tmo, how do i access that? i dont want to rely on wi-fi if i have the tmo network at my disposal.
