So I've been with T-Mobile forever (Originally joined as Voicestream) On record since 2000. I need to get a new phone and I find that on wirefly.com I can get two new Nokia 5310 (the phones I want) for free + $50 rebate on both phones with NEW 2 YR contract.

If I merely do a phone upgrade which would require a 2 YR extension I get a "deal" the phones for $105 each what ever.

Does anyone know if T-Mobile will offer deals like free Nokia 5310's and a 2 YR extension if I called them up to cancel and switch to a different carrier. I'd rather not switch (I'm perfectly happy with T-Mobile) but I would if I can get a great deal on the phones I want.

they do that to lure prospective customers. you are already with t-mobile, they might offer a little deal, but nothing major.

Yeah... I really hate that. I've been with T-Mobile for 8 years and no good deals yet.

Or you can do what I did... I got the phone deal by signing up adding another line. It only cost $10 more a month for that, the only catch being you have to sign up for 2 years. I got my new BB Curve for $49 that way 4 months ago.

I've done that 4 times now. A line for me, my wife, my mother-in-law, and my Mom, so we're not really wasting money.

I don't know how many times I've gone to cancel Cincinnati Bell service and they give me a better deal... it's hilarious! BTW there is so much tax on Cincinnati Bell... there's like 7 different tax no joke. Does any other company charge a lot in tax?

You have to mail it in. Read your paperwork and it should tell you how.

Did you sign up at the store or online? Either way somewhere during the process it should have been stated to you. If not call customer service.

You never get a good upgrade deal from them if you deal with the store at the mall. Call customer service and they can usually do better. My wife just got a Motorola W490 upgrade for $5. I'm due for one in December but instead I just bought a phone on Ebay so I don't have to extend my contract but get a new toy.

I was thinking about this one a little today and thought. When we all signed up I am sure others were in our positions now thinking why we got such great deals when we signed up. Just the circle youhave to go through I guess.

it's funny u know I was trying to get the new Blackberry with Wi-Fi Hotspot @home capabilities not too long ago but I have already been locked into my contract with T-Mobile for a year and it wouldn't be up until one more. They don't give very good deals to us who have already crossed the i's and dotted the t's but when you go online sometimes you'll get a better deal than going to the store or calling customer service for a purchase. I had done my homework on their website about the phone and then called them directly to order and the representative I spoke to gave me a different price (conveniently for them higher) for my order than the site did. go figure

Re: Why do the newbies get all the great deals.

A lot of the online prices are lower than Over the Phone prices or store prices.

The only time you really have any leverage with T-Mobile is when you are a long-term customer (4+ years) and either not in a contract or within a month or two of the contract ending. Even then, you need to puch the right buttons, so to speak.

Step 1: Research. Learn. Know. Knowing is half the battle. Research the cost of plans from other carriers. Look at the overall multi-year cost if they have short-term specials. The people you will be dealing with know everything about the other carriers, so be accurate.

Step 2: Get in touch with retention, aka, the cancellation department. Just say you need to speak to somebody in the cancellation department to get the information you need to make the change of providers s clean as possible. Remember: They are not there to cancel you. They are there to try to convince you to not cancel.

Step 3: Barter. Make it clear you're happy to go into a new commitment, but this other deal is better for you, so your commitment will be with them instead. Maybe when that contract is over, you'll come back to T-Mobile because then at least you get the same sort of thing new customers get.

Step 2.9 (Easy Step): If the other providers aren't good deals, just inform T-Mobile that you are going to cancel your account because your wife/husband/brother is going to start an account in her name because the deals on phones for new customers are better and you need new phones. Downside: Only works for multi-line accounts.

Remember some of these important rebuttals:
"You'll lose your phone number." (Most common with 2.9)
Not 2.9: "Number portability. :P" 2.9: "That's actually a good thing. I've been getting a lot of wrong number phone calls/spam text messages/whatever recently and changing it will clear the slate."

"I just need new phones really, but the cost for an 'upgrade' through T-Mobile is just horrible honestly. Everybody has great deals for new customers, so I obviously need to become a new customer somewhere else for a while to get a good new phone then come back later when I can be a new customer here again."

Overall, never -ever- count rebates as part of the deal for anything. Look at it all pre-rebate. I'd go into details about WHY, but it would be lengthy. Just trust me on this one.

no they don't do that unless you get another line added to your service which will make your bill a little higher then it probably is .
