Prepaid but want to get a better phone

I have a T-Mobile Samsung T209 Pre-paid phone. Can I take the SIM card out and use it in any T-Mobile phone and still have pre-paid service or am I limited in doing so? (i.e Am I limited to just the pre-paid phones or can I pick any T-Mobile phone?) Also can I get , say, an unlocked Palm Pre and use the SIM card in that?

I have pretty much the same question. I've had T-Mobile To Go for about 5 years. If I add minutes before the time is up, I carry my unused minutes over. So far, the phone works GREAT and it's been very inexpensive to use. Can I upgrade to a better NEW phone? I so afraid of losing the great reception I get now but my phone is outdated. I have yet to visit a T-Mobile store...I'm afraid of being talked into something I really might not want or need. Any input would be appreciated...

If you have a sim card for prepaid, you can use it in any t-mobile phone and it will work
