TELUS has released a PRL update for their cell phones. I am not sure if it works with any other service providers. But this is something you should check every couple of months.

RPL Definition - Referred Roaming List. A list of SID's kept inside a phone to permit roaming on other wireless networks. A service provider may set up roaming agreements with other service providers in different geographic regions and the PRL will try to locate one of these service providers' networks first when the home service provider is unavailable. PRL's do change so it's a good idea to ask for a PRL upgrade every 6 months or so if you do a lot of roaming outside your home service area.

Because TELUS use's a lot of Bell Mobility's towers this applies to a lot of TELUS users.

If you wish to do the update:

Dial *8378 to make sure your phone is registered on the network. You should hear some type of talking or music. Stay connected for about 30 sec.

Once this is done,

Dial *22803, pick option 1 for English, and option 2 for RPL Update. Let the phone do its thing, you will know when it’s done.

If you have any problem’s dial *611 from you cell phone and talk to the networking department. They have told me that this is ok to do.
