Re: Smartphone activation with only voice plan
What Telus really needs to do is allow the Spark plans to be activated on the Smartphones; I don't need anything more than my Spark plan provides from a network use/access perspective, but would like the added hardware/internal software features some of the Smartphones provide. I have a RAZR with Spark and I get by with it, but can't get the Sync using either Bitpim or MPT to work properly for both calendar and Contacts concurrently and then of course there is the volume limitation (I have far more contacts in Outlook than the RAZR will handle).
Anyone found a way to get that enabled??
Cheers.

Re: Smartphone activation with only voice plan
Response99, you indicated that you picked up the $15 E-mail and IM package, the hicuup with that is that is does not actually include any other form of Internet access.
From your message, it sounds like you are asking about the pay-as-you-go data package and I'm not sure what it's called. I also not sure that it applies to what you're actually looking for. I was forced to add a data access service to my Telus agreement in order to use my RAZR as a modem for my laptop, I believe this will also get you the access required. You will need to call in though, as the only ones that seem to show up on the web site are for business accounts only, but they do have non-business offferings.
If what you are looking for is a pay-as-you-go voice package that you can add the $15 E-mail and IM to, I don't believe that is offered; I believe the EM+IM package is only available in conjunction with monthly service voice packages.
I hope this helps.

Re: Smartphone activation with only voice plan
I am currently on a monthly billing cycle. I was just wondering if i could get away with going for a smaller data package as I would not be really using it. I would rather just pay for what i am actually going to use, the voice package. I did read how ever that you need to have a data package with telus, so.. i don't know.

Re: Smartphone activation with only voice plan
You do indeed need to have a data package and if you are not really doing much web interaction, just the e-mail and IM, then yes you should be able to reduce your data package coverage. I got one put on for I believe $10 (just did it and haven't seen the 1st bill yet, so I'm not sure what it was called. I just called in on 611 and worked with them over the phone. Make sure you deal with the data group though as the 1st guy I dealt with was regular customer care and didn't have a clue.
