Under my name I have 2 current contracts - one phone is mine and the other is my daughter's. I want to know if my husband can take over my daughter's portion of our contract (but with a new phone number) so that my daughter can start a new contract which will allow her to get the new phone she wants.

I'm not specifically familiar with Telus, but I'm pretty sure they work just like every other carrier. If your daughters existing contract is not expired, then it'll be treated like canceling and starting a new contract. So, that means you'll have to pay an early termination fee (ETF) to cancel the one contract. You could switch the existing contract and number to your husband, and keep the existing number, but that will not start a new contact.

I would suggest you figure out what the ETF would be (if there is one) and weigh that against the cost of the new phone outright.

Since Telus is a HSPA carrier, your husband can start a new contract and order the phone your daughter wants. Then the two switch SIM cards and phones.
