For the record I sent the mentioned e-mail enquiry on Thursday afternoon

    Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO):

A Mobile Virtual Network Operator is a company that does not own a licensed
frequency spectrum, but resells wireless services under their own brand
name, using the network of another mobile phone operator. The first was
Virgin Mobile, launched in the United Kingdom in 1999.

An MVNO's roles and relationship to the mobile phone operator vary by
market. In general an MVNO is an entity or company that works independently
of the operator and can set its own tariff structures. Usually, it does not
own any GSM infrastructure, such as Mobile Switching Center (MSC) or a
radio access network. Some may own their own Home Location Register (HLR),
which allows more flexibility since multiple host networks could be used,
and the MVNO appears as a roaming partner.

It pays them to answer 0871 number but cannot be bothered to answer

I thought that they will charge for these

I would be more comfortable with it if also T-Mobile confirmed the existence
    of such an agreement

I have purchased the 12 month option (with free Nokia 3120) for my son
and have encountered no problems whatsoever. Even ported my son's
number. I'm about to order a second SIM (with phone) from them.

That is good to hear but are you in a better position to say then those who
have not subscribed what the actual charges to non-geographic numbers are?

I don't know but I generally call such numbers from my landline, if at
all. For 0870 numbers I consult the 'saynoto0870' website.

I am not sure if you are referring to my posting but, if you do, you could
have noticed that I have simply asked factual questions about call rates
that every telecomms provider should have no problem answering and would
provide a definitive answer if asked.

You are right there. It looks that if you want to have a facility to make
calls while abroad you will need to purchase their international traveller
package at £3.50/month about which you will learn only at a checkout.. I
prefer to deal with reasonably transparent companies who publish they
tariffs clearly, answer e-mails and do not ask me to call 0871 number if I
need or want to call them. Apart from that it could be a good deal.
