I can never seem to pick up other peoples bluetooth enabled phones to
    enable file-swapping etc.
I power the b/t on and I get a message saying "discoverable - 60 seconds".
Other folk can see me ok but not me them. When I search for devices I find
nothing, and this can be when sitting round a table with 4 or 5 other
    bluetooth users!
Am I doing something basic wrong?

Find the file you want to send, select COPY form the menu, and then you
get to choose bluetooth recipients. A strange way of doing it but it
    works.

Thanks for that Jon. What about when I'm actually scanning for bluetooth
handsets? How do I do that?

    That's what's supposed to happen.

Forgetting to ask the other 4 or 5 people to set their phones to
    "discoverable".

Setting your phone to discoverable means other devices can see yours,
    not the other way round.
