I'm not impressed with any of the phones currently available at the
    moment.

I am looking for a new phone and was going to get the Nokia N70, two
things prevented me from doing so though.

The main thing was the size of the keypad. It is so small it is
ridiculous. I don't know how you are supposed to use that. It's a
shame because it is a great phone and does pretty much everything.
That was the main problem I had with the phone. The other problem was
the length of it. Size wise I think it is just a tiny fraction too
    big.

I was then thinking of getting the W900i, but this doesn't appear to
be a smart phone, and I have a feeling that based on similar SE styles
and designs, this one is going to be quite chunky as well, plus it
    weighs too much.

I think I am going to design my own mobile phone. I'll draw what I
want a mobile phone to look like, send the design to all the main
manufacturers, tell them what features I want from it as well, and see
which company can make something I want to buy.

So far, as far as size is concerned the SE 750 is the perfect phone.
If it had all the features I wanted I'd buy it. The N70 does have all
the features I want, but the design, size and keypad are all poor
    IMHO.

I'm just waiting for someone to make a decent phone, and I hope to
goodness I don't have to wait forever.

Perhaps the N92 or the P990i will be the right phone for me?

Normally I'd say you were being too picky, but at the moment I have to
agree. Current phones just aren't that appealing, and for things like
battery life, progress has actually reversed.

The closest I've found recently to a perfect phone is the Nokia 6680, but
the keypad is small to allow for a large screen. Nokia, we're crying out for
    a 6310i mk2...

So you moan about the size of the keys being too small, and in the same
breath also complain that the phone is too big and bulky?

    > I think I am going to design my own mobile phone.

    I think you should.

They probably wont be available in your colour. Or something.

It don't really like people saying *me to* but in this instance I will
    make an exception. Me To!

Nokia whatever it is called please bring out the next version of the
6310i with a proper key pad and good talk and stand by time. There are
lot's of us just waiting for a proper phone that will replace what we
    have.

Same here. I ordered a SE W900 (waiting for it to be delivered) as it comes
free of charge, but honestly I think technology is just stuck at the moment
and nothing really appealing is available.

    - The RAZR looks and feels great but is 2G only and, alas, is a Motorola (I
    don't like the software).

    - The Nokia are old the next day, and are no longer so "cool".

    - The SE were probably good some time ago but now they would all need a
software revamp. Hopefully my new W900 will save me from carrying the iPod
and keep me calm until decent phones are released next year.

    - The clamshell Sharp 903 sounds cutting-edge, but doesn't have an external
    display. Can you believe it?

Well, I think it's just too soon for a good 3G light phone, say 100g of
weight, good data capability, good software, and a decent battery life.

    Let's wait and see.

It is possible to have a small phone and a slim one, with a fairly big
screen, and still have a decent keypad. As far as the N70 goes, they
just need to tweak it a bit. Oh, hang on a sec, I think they have come
up with the N71, and that looks better already. I believe the keypad
on this is a lot better. Won't be out for a while mind you, so still
    no decent phones atm.

A choice of silver or black is fine for most normal people. Same for
    me.

Re: I'm not impressed with any phones atm

I would really like to see more innovation as far as phones go.

How about a phone with three layers?

The top layer is a 3G flip phone with camera on both sides, and a
    decent size keypad.

So when the flip is open you have the top layer opening out vertically
and you are using the middle layer as your keypad and the inside of
the top layer is an LCD for your phone functions.

Then you can also close the flip and open the bottom layer, also a
flip but this opens horizontally and reveals on the top of the bottom
layer, or the bottom of the middle layer that opens up, a wide LCD all
the way across for watching 3G and video content, i.e. DVB television
reception etc. The bottom of the flip is a QWERTY keypad and video
play controls. You can also use this as an easier way to key in text
messages, and also for sending emails and surfing the net.

All in the shape of something similar to the Motorola RAZR v3 phones
and also quite thin and lightweight. less than 130g.

Is that asking too much? They certainly have the technology to do it
today. The Nokia N92 for example, coming out next year, is halfway
there. It has the horizontal flip for video content, though perhaps a
bit bulky and only two layers. (You have to use the same keypad, no
    QWERTY) http://www.engadget.com/entry/1234000427070581/

Perhaps it will take someone like Samsung or SE to innovate something
    like this?

    John
