I'm going nuts, I've got her everything on the list except a phone - and
I've been trying to make sense of the gazillions of different handsets with
this feature and that feature and cameras, radios mp3....arrggg..... I'm
wondering if anyone had a good site they could point me at where I could
    compare handsets?

I've googled, and I'm slowly plodding though looking up ones I see in the
shops but its slow going and a chart would be great if one exists, I know
what's important to her and what's not but its so amazingly confusing I cant
seem to find the right mix for less than about £130? Would that be about
right for a payg with all possible formats of ringtones (poly, wav, mp3
etc), wallpapers and bluetooth? Seems a lot, having a camera is not
important, nor are extras like gprs, email or movies, things that wouldn't
get used. Preferably its one that uses her voda sim but I don't mind getting
it unlocked by matey at the market if its not.

I'm almost at the point of buying a D500 since that keeps getting fired at
me from the television but things advertised like that are usually terrible
    and overpriced- is it?

Thanks to anyone that can help or suggest anything

Motorola V653 CarPhone Warehouse 129.99. Just bought one for my daughter.

If THAT doesn't work, try the next best option:-

Why not get her a Motorola ROKR with iTunes mp3 player and 4x zoom camera ?
    Very nice phone too.
There is plenty of new and unlocked ones for sale on eBay, less then £100,
cos the Networks have been giving them away.
Sold both of mine now :-)

Yeah, especially the foul pink ones.

As others have suggested the pink RAZR v3 would be the ideal choice as
it is the best selling phone this Christmas and ticks all your
requirements: Has mp3 ringtones and is a flip phone and also all girls
love it! It would be under your budget on a contract (with cashback
discounts for line rental) but over £135 on PAYG so depends if you
want to enter a contract to get the phone cheaper?

As for other phones my site lets you see all flip phones as well as all
mp3 ringtone phones so that might help you somewhat to narrow down your
options but I think you will need to brave the high street with such a
short time until the big day!

    Good luck

    Andy

One of my girlfriends at work got the Moto Razr recently when she was
getting a new phone. She sent it back straight away. Hated it. Got
something else instead now. I think it's a Samsung but I'm not 100%
sure. It is a flip though and quite small and rounded.

Is that the phone, or your "girl-friend" at work??

There are equally as many girls who completely hate pink as those who
like it. And as for the RAZR, one of my friends at work hated it and
sent it back straight away. She got something else instead. Girls do
like their flip phones though, and also sliding ones. As long as it
takes photos, can do MP3's, basic video, has bluetooth (they like to
share with their mates), is fairly small and stylish, and is a flip or
sliding phone, most girls I reckon would be quite happy. Oh, and we
all know they like to jabber a lot so plenty of talk time.

    >As for other phones my site lets you see all flip phones as well as all

Agreed. Definitely got to head to the high street now. Last post was
today for Christmas. Perhaps there are one or two sites that can
guarantee delivery before Saturday? Wouldn't like to chance it though.

If you want to compare phones by the number of features they have, I
have always found the Car Phone Warehouse site to be very useful.

Take this link for Pay Monthly: http://tinyurl.com/boe93

Take this link for PAYG: http://tinyurl.com/9b3eo

Take this link for handset only sim free: http://tinyurl.com/d6axx

Of course the phones with the most features are often buisness or
smartphones etc and are quite big, but you can atill find a lot of
phones with perhaps the odd thing less that are quite small and
    stylish mear the top.

As for the UIs of Samsungs being horrid (of which I agree), I do have
two sisters with the same phone and they find it an extremely easy
phone to use. I also have a mate who had a very small silver Samsung
which she found extremely easy to use. She got a new phone about 6
months ago, a Motorola, and hasn't stopped complaining about it since.
She finds it difficult to use, and will probably buy another Samsung
or maybe Sony Ericsson to replace that very soon.

Thanks for all the replies guys!! I couldnt post in earlier as I only just
opened the thread and she came and sat next to me... ooops.

I was up till 2am last night researching phone after phone, and did the town
bit today :/ Trapsing round and round, trying to find anything half decent
on voda, I'm still stuck but ive got a better idea now.

I cant see how anyone could like the RAZR. its horrible, big clunky thing
with that all metal keypad? ugh.... and the only D500 I can find under £200
is on the tesco network, would have to wait till after xmas to get it
    unlocked (dont trust internet codes).

I almost like the VS6 for its price and features (2Mpix cam, 16M colour
screen) but it looks like a palitoy phone when opened, very basic looking.

About the only one I saw that was in stock and on voda was the V635 that
KevinX kindly mentioned up there however the screen (with just 65k colours)
is poor in comparision with other phones in the same class.... also its only
5Mb onboard, so thats another £25 on the price for a 256mb clip of
transflash- £165 all told, getting expensive.

Oh man what am I going to do :/

    MadAd..

Palitoy????Where did THAT name come from?? Guess you remember the ORIGINAL
"Action Man" (figures, NOT humans!) as well?? ;-)

Back to the storyline. The A635 comes with a 64Mb Transflash, and further
memory may be obtained from mobymemory (256Mb 20.99£, 512Mb 31.99£).

You say it's "getting expensive". If you love her, cost should not be an
issue. If otherwise, see my original posting (www.getdivorced....... :-)
    Good luck!

Busted! Yeah I admit it, I played with dolls as a kid

I take it palitoy doesn't exist anymore? It was the first toy company that
    came to mind.

Did the deed today, got the 635- after more web reading last night it was
the clear winner compared to the D500, which doesn't even let you assign
custom tones to messages, only rings, plus the 635 is styled just like her
old one. I just hope its got better than the original firmware that many
people are posting complaints about on gsmarena.com, seems to be the main
    weakpoint of the phone.

Oh has it got 64Mb already? That'll do, I've not looked in the box yet, when
I said about expensive I should have said uncompetitive, of course she gets
whatever it'll take to do the job just I was unaware that it would take a
three figure sum to play ringtones and do bluetooth Just took me some
time to figure out what's happened in the past 2 years of phones since I
last had to choose one and read up all the reviews.

ok so that's 3 down one to go... anyone know anything about jewellery? :E

    Thanks a lot guys!
