    Hi Everybody

I will soon be coming to the end of my contract and I may be moving to
another network provider. I heard from a friend sometime ago that the
network company's would be letting customers keep their mobile number
if they choose to leave for another provider.

Does anybody out there know if this has come to fruition or are the
likes of Vodaphone, O2 etc still able to hold onto your number as a
means of discouraging you from leaving.

    With Thanks

    Clive

Yes, this came to fruition three or more years ago! Ask for you PAC
(Porting Authorisation Code) from your current provider, and give it to
your new provider when you join. The move of your number takes about a
week, and when it happens, you're old contract and SIM will
    automatically be terminated.

they have to give it you, however, they can be a pain in doing so and may
charge you. You want to ask them for your "PAC", I think its 'port
authorisation code'. They also like to call it a PAC code, which would mean
port authorisation code code. In a similar way to your PIN number, your
    personal identification number number...

Clive mate, I've been in the game for nearly 6 years, and number porting
has always been available. The only reason for a network hanging on to a
number is if you owe them money.
