My Mum has a Nokia 3310, but the key's have started to stick and she's
always found it a bit difficult to use. I'm looking for a replacement
that has large keys, a clear screen that's easy to see in any light
condition, and most importantly a very loud ring.
She almost never sends texts, but does receive a few. No need for any
connectivity options, polyphonic ringtones, a camera or colour screen.
The more simple the better.
She is currently on Tesco Mobile's Pay As You Go service, and wants to
keep it that way. I'd like to keep the cost below £60, but I'm flexible.
Any suggestions? The only thing I've found that comes close is the Nokia
1100, but I hoping there might be something better.
Cheers
Simon

The Nokia 1100 is the only one I would suggest. What do you mean, something
better? It sort of contradicts, the simpler the better! ;0)

You might also want to consider the Sony Ericsson K500i.

Better than the 1100? How about the 1110?! (£30 on the Tesco website).

The Nokia 5120 or Nokia 3110 were quite good in this respect, especially
the former. However they are both discontinued. I was going to suggest
buying one from www.retrofone.com, but the domain seems to have
disappeared, hopefully temporarily. I believe there are other places
which sell such refurbished and tested phones, and you could keep an
eye on ebay.

Vodafone VS1 seems to meet your mums needs - large screen, large
keypad, no bells or whistles. If it is possible to unlock it then you
could overcome the only obvious problem of no Tesco service

Nah, the keys are too small.
Got K300is and Motorola ROKRs as free upgrades, but sold the lot and bought
5 Nokia 1100s,
£16.99 from play.com (on Virgin PAYG, but free and easy to unlock).
Or £14.99 from CPW if you have trade in, including £5 on PAYG Orange.

Martin

Bit of the wall maybe but my 74 year old mum has the nokia 7600. For her,
the keys around the screen are a lot easier to use and the screen is nice
and big. She likes the shape too - fits into her bag better!
Or the Motorola C139 from CPW. 14.99 on Orange with £5 credit. Presumably
can be unlocked

The Motorola C139 from CPW is OK, just got 74 yo Dad one over Christmas,
but the keys are quite small, it is a very small phone anyway.
BTW they are supplied UNlocked

Unfortunately this has now gone up to £24.99 at play.com and is also
out of stock.

Agreed. The 1100 takes some beating if you want a PHONE!! Cameras, MP3
players etc are not included.
