My daughter went into Dixon's and bought a BT headset £19.99. She paid with
a £20 note.
The operative did not put the note into the till but into a Velcro wallet
under the till.
Is this a security system or was it a lift...?

Did she get a till receipt? If yes, the till won't balance at the end of the
day if it was a "lift"

Can still be a lift even if you get the change when you don't get a receipt,
the operative could just keep a stock of pennies handy. Having said that, if
there was a receipt issued, then it probably wasn't. But when I used to work
in retail, we had security containers under the till for £20s and excessive
numbers of £10s.

There you go then. A lot of shops do something similar for large value
notes. As long as you have the till receipt you're covered.

You must be bored! If you're so concerned call the police! (Victor meldrew
comes to mind.)
|If you had bothered to ask the retailer they would have explained the
system to you - not that it has anything to do with this group. Different
shops have security measures.

There are cameras above each till in Dixons and other shops like Tesco. In
Dixons the recording is linked to the staff ID on the till and records each
transaction, then links it to a barcode. In places like Tesco there is a
visual indication of whether items have been scanned, the operator ID,
time/date and full list of items sold etc.
So it's very difficult for people to get away with things for long. Cameras
are hidden by the way, so if people working in retail are rude to customers
it will also be on the DVD!
Most are fitted as a lot of shop theft is down to employees.

Bollocks.

More bollocks.

True.

If you need to ask...
How secure would a velcro wallet be? Not very.

And if more than one operator uses that till (common) then a missing £20
cannot be pinned on anybody and will go un-challenged.

???
The till would still open, and still print a receipt. All that's
happened is that the operator has pocketed the £20 note instead of
putting it in the till.
