I got a Vodafone mobile connect data card as part of a laptop deal but
have realised that I'm not going to use it. A friend has said that he
would like to use it but I'm reluctant to pass it on as I had to supply
my bank details for the direct debit to pay for any usage.

Is it possible to pass these cards on for someone else to use and how do
I make sure that I don't end up paying any bills?

    TIA.

Are you sure you haven't committed yourself to a 12 month contract?

We had the offer of six with six new laptops - if we had taken them we
would have six 12 month Vodafone contracts on the £25.00 per month tariff.

Must have a look! Even more important I make sure that I can't be
    charged if it's used.

They said I would only be charged for any data transferred...

I would have thought that if you removed the SIM from the card before
passing it on then you'd be fine. Perhaps they've connected you to a
12-month data contract that doesn't have line rental but bills via DD
(hence why bank details required). If you keep hold of the SIM then the
new owner of the card won't be able to charge anything to you.

    Cheers

    Thanks for the help.

So there's nothing in/on the actual 3G/GPRS data card to tie it to me or
    anyone else then?

The card has an IMEI like a phone so that can tie it to a user (by
virtue of a sales invoice) or a SIM (by virtue of usage).
