Reestit, Could you please point out where this "all claims depend on the
success of all previous claims" clause comes from for these two retailers?
I've checked their terms but can't quite see it. Thanks!

It's a little less than clearcut on their site but the following text
would seem to imply that there is a claims dependency:
"Where a valid claim has not been received by us within one calendar
month of the required bill, you will not be entitled to any part of the
Cash Back offered. Cash back files are closed and cannot be reopened in
these cases."
I have yet to obtain confirmation from the retailers about the true
interpretation of this clause but, in the meantime, it's safest to
interpret this on the strict side i.e. "if you miss one claim, you lose
them all"

Am I the only person that really can't be arsed entertaining all this
cashback tomfoolery? The sooner people stop jumping through suppliers
hoops like this, the sooner they'll get around to stopping this
nonsense. Go take out a contract without all this cashback crap.
The thought of buggering around with bills 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12 months
after my bill date to save a couple of quid is just too much for me.

I can't be arsed either. My contract with Orange just ran out so I
phone them up and say "make me an offer, I'll sign a new contract but
don't want a phone - reduce my line rental instead". No can do. So I
port my number to PAYG and then take out a new contract and port my
number back in then sell the "free" phone on ebay then get my referral
fee from Quidco. I'd rather be on a cheap line rental but no-one makes
this worthwhile.

You sir - are a complete and utter idiot. If saving £360 (£30 per
month for 12 months) by sending back 3 bills over the course of a year
is tomfoolery, then I'm a great big fool and damned proud of it. My
partner and I each took out a 'free' contract at the same time. It
has so far taken us a total of 10 minutes to reclaim almost £600 and
we'll be making our final claims 4 months from now. A stamp on an
envelope, a copy of a bill and 20 yards walk to the neighbourhood post
box - oh what an effort!!
BTW our cashback cheques arrived 5 days later.

Glad you're happy, but it's still cheaper not to have a mobile phone at all?

Well, the first time, I got L25 for a broken phone in trade in.
The rest of the time you can factor in the removal of the BT phone
charges if everyone had a mobile in the house.

Well, quite.
Reminds me of that old Dilbert cartoon where he works out how to make a
million. Sell something for £1,000,000.01 with a million cashback and
just find someone who'll forget to mail the form in.
Cashbacks are repulsive pain-in-the-ass schemes that we as consumers
shouldn't support. They work by diddling people who don't understand
them or forget which hoops to jump through.
While you've had your 'free' phone and 'free' minutes, others are on
plans paying monthly rental, perhaps because they've no interest in the
latest camera phone with wank ring-tunes, subsidising your freebies.
I'd prefer companies/networks to come up with fairer talk plans for all
and do away with this illusion of 'free' goodies for some. While you're
happy at home photocopying past bills and toddling off to the post
office when they demand, I don't see why I should. I'd rather have a
better deal from the kick-off.

Yes, you are absolutely right, but un/fortunately (depends on whether you
have a freebee :-) the chaps who run the mobile phone marketing are complete
fools !
I never even wanted a phone, but 4+ years ago SWMBO came home with 2 free
phones with full 12m cashback courtesy of Voda. Ever since, without any
great effort, we have had free calls and six new fancy phones, all promptly
sold, from Orange and T-Mob, so we actually made some profit.
I dear say most of readers of this group do much the same.
These days it pays to be informed and on the ball whether it's phones,
broadband, utilities or whatever.
But don't blame us, blame the marketing bods, who get paid £xx,xxx for their
stupidity....

Martin
