Got a 0044 global sim today, wanted to test it out before i leave for europe
in a couple of days, and the damn thing's got outgoing call barring
    activated.

E-mailed 0044 about it, and i got a standard reply.... check this and that,
a bit like when you call sky tv to say the dish has just fallen off the side
of the house... 'ok, first i need you to remove the card, wipe the contacts,
replace it and see if that works' kind of thing.

check the phone is compatable.. it is, check the phones unlocked, duuuh,
check the sim card contacts are clean, try a different operator and so on,
if this dont work then we'll get onto the network your on and get them to
    run diagnostics.

ferchrisake, i know what the problem is, the outgoing call barring is
activated, and i need the pass code from them to remove it, then i can make
calls, simple, the phone is not being allowed to try and make a call so it's
not an issue with the operator netowrk i'm on, it's the damn sim refusing to
    allow calls.

Don't suppose anyone knows the 0044 call barring password? 4 digit number,
tried the sim code that came with the phone, it's not that, anyone else have
    this problem??

The SIM doesn't make outgoing calls; it uses callback, so you get a
screen message about call not allowed or similar, then Sending a
    request, then it rings

Apologies if you know all this already. If that isn't the problem then
    I don't know.

Also try calling CallKey CS at 01624 822500

In addition it only works with the handsets listed on their website?

True - it will still receive calls in other phones, so could be used
with a separate callback service or other forwarding

    From their FAQ:

"17. Does my Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Motorola; Bosch etc. handset function
    with your SIM card?
Yes, the SIM works in all current GSM handsets (SIM lock free). Some
older handsets require you to make calls using the menu. To make a call:
Select the menu option ("Call/Anrufen") from the Main or Extras Menu on
you handset and enter the number."

On my Mitsubishi Trium Astral the above method works fine, it even
accesses the phonebook. Initially it shows the message "Call failed" but
if you wait you get the return call. Maybe the OP should be using this
    method.

The phone is on their compatible list, but that's not the problem,

outgoing call barring is in place on the sim, i have assertianed this 20
times, it's deffinately that that's the problem, outgoing call baring is
active, and i need the code to cancel the outgoing call barring,
this they can't seem to get me,

Just wondering if anyone else had this problem and knows the networks call
barring code from having to use it before???

the phone will not dial out full stop, it dosent even attempt to dial out,
the second you press the green dial key for absolutely any number dialed you
    get 'call not allowed'

I know all about the call back thing, no probs with that, but as outgoing
call barring is activated on the sim, i can never get that far,

you dont say what fone u have,

I have nokia 6600, when i swap sims, and try to make a call, as soon as
pressing the green, i did get the same message untill i figured it out.

    check in security settings,

(tools, security, phone and sim, LOCK IF SIM CHANGED).

    IT MAY BE on.

    I've had similar problems with my Riiing (United Mobile) sim card;
although I've had it and used it for several months, when I tried it out
the oher day at home before leaving the UK I found it was barred.
However, tried it again later without doing anything and it was fine.
    Also OK overseas.

Does your sim, like mine, log on to whichever UK network it likes? I
wonder whether some of them don't like it much and reject it? Dunno.
    But try again later!

I don't think you read what I said earlier ...
The SIM doesn't make outgoing calls; it uses callback, so you get a
screen message about call not allowed or similar, then Sending a
    request, then it rings

    or the instructions ...
Ignore any messages the phone may display during this process

The question is - are you cancelling the sending a request? - I managed
to do this a couple of times the other day

If not, then perhaps there is another bar - what do CallKey say about
    it?

Sorted it out at last... it's me damn phone, nokia 6820 series phones with
the latest firmware have problems it seems, using the string dialing method
works, so i got it working at last,

bloody annoying thing is i had a 6310i which i'd have had to use the string
dialing method with, so i got a 6820 series phone as that was one listed as
    working,

So it wasn't the SIM being "call-barred" that you swore until blue in
    the face?

Erm, yes it was, the sim was and still is outgoing call barred,
the problem was my phone which is on their list of being compatable with the
    call back thing wasnt really,

if i'd got the outgoing call barring lifted, then the sim would have worked,
    but incurred roaming charges,

the nokia 6820 series phones just don't like doing the message request
thing, it tells you the sim's blocked and can't call out, and that's it, it
wont go any further... asscertianed by holding the phone near a speaker to
hear when it's senging a signal, no signal sent when you try to dial
    normaly.

It receives calls fine in 3210 and 3510i, so other callback reaches,
but you get the call barring message, without the work around that
sends anyway. This differs a bit from other SIMs, as UM does work in a
    3510i

sorry to keep saying it, but that isn't the way it works - it doesn't
make outgoing calls, nor do most other global SIMs, so I don't know how
you can assume anything about roaming charges

Re: 0044 global sim, calls barred

    Hi,

I have the same problem. I put it in a Nokia 6210 and it won't go. The
list of phones they recommend is very odd. I have a riiing card and
this is 100% reliable and hassle free I recommend it as by far the best
option as the UK card seems a lot of grief.
