Just acquired a Nokia 1101 and am looking to buy a spare battery or
three. Doese anyone happen to know which batteries hold the most
charge? The one that came with the phone is a BL5C. Since it came with
the phone, I suspect it is possibly not the *best* battery available.
But I really don't know. Can anyone clarify?

    Thank you,

    Al D

You do know that the talk time with the standard battery is around 3
hours, with the standby time around 7-10 days?
I'd simply go to ebay, and buy 3-4 from the cheapest vendor, with a
    decent feedback, for example
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/New-Nokia-BL-5...QQcmdZViewItem
(I have no connection with this seller)

If you want very long talk time, it may be worth looking for a phone
    that may better suit.

Or if you're looking for very long standby, a solar charger.

I can only go by my Nokia 1100 - I use it as a backup / emergency only
phone (sat at home most of the time unused) and it seems to keep its
charge for a good two weeks.

    Cool! Perhaps I don't need a backup batter after all... That's a
pretty good standby time, isn't it?

That's an interesting idea. The reason why I need backup batteries
etc., is because I go on long back-packing treks into the wilds. I
don't plan to make any calls, except in emergency, so long standby
time is what I really need. The solar charger is a new concept to me.
(Thanks for making me aware of them.) Are they better than the
hand-cranking chargers? I suspect they so.. at least, in the sunny
    summer months...

PS... This surprises me, because of the fairly small size of the
battery... but, I guess technology has moved on since the days of my
last mobile phone with it's giniferous battery, yet poor standby time.

I can`t be definitive on the time between charges, but its definitely
well over a week between charges. I think I last charged it over the
weekend (Fri / Sat) and its on 3/4 battery still.

I also have a Nokia 1100 as a backup phone and agree with the two weeks
    standby time.
I wouldn't say the battery is very small, it's actually bigger than the one
    in my 3230.

Hmm - your wilds include the mandatory mast every km or so?
And you are expecting to receive calls all the time - hence the standby
    requirement?

The other thing that passed us all by is :

....if the OP only wants to make calls in an emergency, you can switch
ANY phone off until you need it !

    For me.
I found that in my nokia 3330 that the battery will conveniently
reverse - you remove the battery, flip it 180 degrees on the long axis,
and it clips back in - but won't work of course.
This means that the battery is completely disconnected from the phone,
and will last at least a year.
However, turning the phone off may work nearly as well.

Here`s a blast from the past...

My 1100 is about ready to need charging again - and while I don`t think
its been charged since my original post (?!?), if it has, its only been
once (so that`s from about 05/05/06 to now, working on the dates given
in my first post) - it hasn`t bleeped yet, but i`m expecting it to start
    soon !

Even if it had been charged in the meantime, that`s still 34 days on 2
    charges...
