While traveling in New Zealand I would like to transmit data (text only
e-mail) via GPRS using a Voadafone New Zealand prepaid SIM card.
Are those SIM cards GPRS capable? Are the trunk roads on both the north
and south island well covered with GPRS service?
If GPRS is not an option: is CSD data transmission a viable option (line
stability, data throughput, price)?
Thank you for your help.

From Vodafone NZ's website, it looks like all the answers are yes:
http://www.vodafone.co.nz/business/1...obile_data.jsp

If you need more information, you might also like to ask in nz.general and/or
rec.travel.australia+nz; soc.culture.new-zealand is pretty quiet these days.

Thanks for the referral, Geoff.
Yes I had read through the monopolist's website before posting, but the
information ist not very clear about the capabilities of the prepay SIM.
And yes, monopolies are wonderful - for the monopolist ;-)

Re: Vodafone New Zealand prepaid SIM: GPRS capable?
Had no problems using NZ Voda on both Nth and Sth Islands in January
for voice. They do have big mountains so be realistic at what to expect
but otherwise main routes quite well covered. GPRS roamed using another
phone with UK V mobile SIM (flat rate £5 Mb UK and abroad) on NZ Voda
network with no probs.
