yeah - Orange have been telling me that since last November... I still
keep my hopes up, but I'm getting tired of waiting. Fingers crossed, eh?

It's been taken off the orange website altogether now. Has it been
scrapped?

Yup.

Official line is that there were too many hardware/software problems,
although there are rumours flying around that Nokia wouldn't let Orange
put their music player on as the default player... so they dumped it.
Who knows.

Yes. Due to high return rates experienced by other retailers (upwards of
75%).

Interestingly, orange upgrades are still saying that it is due out very
soon and it's in the carphone warehouse and orange magazines for this
month. So i presume that it is still gonna be out.

Please be assured that it has been pulled. Magazines are printed several
weeks in advance and information will take 3-4 days to filter out to all
CSRs.
