It's that time of year again, and my daughters contract is up for renewal.
There are lots of great deals around, but I am concerned about cashbacks,
and who to trust. My wife's phone was through Carphonewarehouse, and they
have been great with the cashback, my daughters currently is with Clubmobile
and they have been a nightmare, and I am currently considering taking to the
small claims court to recover costs, although I suspect this may be a waste
of time and money.
So who can I trust ? So far :
Carphonewarehouse
E2save (part of CPW so should be safe?)
Any other companies recommended or shouldI stick to the above ?

dialaphone are good - cashbacks (so far) have been prompt and without
problems.

Re: cashback deals, how reliable ?
I've been looking at coolnewmobile and phoneboxdirect, both of which
offer full cashback deals on a 12 month contract.
Any comments on their reliability???

I don't think either company have been around long enough to make a
balanced judgement.
Both are fairly new players in the industry.

I have used Mobileshop.com many times over the years and they are
excellent. They tell you when you will get the cashback and in my case
have stuck to that date religiously.
There is a bit of a wait from submitting your bill/voucher but you do
know the date they will pay up.
Highly recommended.

I think it's important to go with a reputable company - I didn't this time
last year and they conveniently went into reveivership. A small wait for
your payments is better than getting nothing.

hmmm, "bit of a wait" = 45 working days from the expiry date on the
voucher the last time I went with them. So if you submit your claim in
good time and allowing for snail mail, it's around 11 weeks. And I had
to email them to chase it up after 12 weeks; maybe they've improved
recently?
I did query why it should take 45 working days to write a cheque and
they replied it was to enable them to carry out "account checks" with
the network; utter rubbish of course, the DPA prevents that and, in any
case, the bill you submit with your cashback voucher gives them all the
information they need to see the status of your account.
I suspect the long wait contributes to people forgetting all about the
cashback once they've submitted it.

Some good comments, I too had been looking at coolnewmobile, and
phoneboxdirect as they have some cracking deals, but feel I will stick to
one of the other recommended ones.

I would rather deal with a company that took longer and paid out
correctly as and when they said they would. In my experiences and that
of several freiends and family members, Mobileshop have been perfect.
I would suggest that if a person is not disciplined enough to comply
with the cash-back terms, then they shouldn't be looking at a
cash-back deal at all.
The OP asked who was reliable and I answered him, given my
experiences.
At the end of the day it is individual choice. Just don't be unlucky
enough to pick a firm that either goes to the wall or takes the piss
and doesn't pay out at all.

I don't necessarily disagree; my point was simply that 45 working days
is taking the piss.
When you submit a claim, they check you've complied with the t & c's,
have a nosey at your bill to check you're not in arrears and that
you've not changed tariffs.
Probably takes someone 3 minutes tops to run through a tick-list.
Another couple of days max to process the payment and get it
authorised.
Certainly not 9 weeks and I'd imagine that if they adopted similar
procedures for settling outstanding invoices to suppliers, they'd be
out of business rather quickly because no-one would supply them.

They have a business plan. Of course they settle the invoices from
their suppliers at their due dates. Part of that business plan is a
fairly small profit on commission if the punter follows all the
cash-back procedures perfectly. At the end of the day, many people are
getting a phone and one years line rental, including lots of airtime,
for either buttons or nothing. Is it too difficult to understand that
obtaining such a good deal requires a small amount of effort, patience
and concentration on their behalf? Maybe, in common with the 'British'
way, we want our cake and eat it?
Mobileshop clearly make their profit from people who take out a
cash-back offer and for whatever reason are unable/incapable of
understanding or implementing a simple but slightly protracted claim
procedure.
