I'm trying to understand their current pay as you go packages.
I seem to remember about a year ago before I got my contract that when I
topped up I would get a certain number of free texts/minutes for the next
month, and one minute's call time was equivalent to one text message.
However looking at the tariffs now there is no mention of that, it seems you
can either get tariffs with free texts, free anytime minutes or free offpeak
minutes, but none which offer a free text and call allowance, is that right?

There is a good one where, if you top up with £10/month, you get 100
free units (on top of your £10). Each unit can be used for a text or a
cross network minute. You also get some data included for Wap etc.
When your free units are used up I think it is 25p/min for first 3
mins of the day and then 5p/min.
I don't think 0870s are included in the free minutes.

Certainly not as good as it used to be. You got 300 texts and/or a
combination of calls and texts.

Yes. But I can't see it on the O2 website?!

That's because they withdrew that tariff at the beginning of May (5th?)
- now you only get 50 mins for a tenner or a hundred for £15.

No tarrifs where you get minutes and texts? It has to be one or the other?

I didn't realise that there had been a change.
These look to be the replacement tariffs - not nearly as good as
before :-(

Well maybe it was last September, O2 tinkered with their Online PAYG
tariffs then as well. I have an O2 PAYG SIM with this particular
Talkalot tariff. It has an allowance of 100 x-net mins or 300 texts or
100 MMS for a tenner, or any pro rata combination thereof, and once
you've used your allowance, the £10 is still there for use as normal
PAYG i.e. 25p/min for 1st 3 mins then 5p/min for call to other O2 or
landlines. 1MB GPRS too. The allowance re-sets the following month
providing you top-up again.
This is the original link, which of course no longer works, as the
tariff has been withdrawn. One of the web archive sites may still have
a copy of the page, but I can't be arsed to search for it.

Correct - it's changed. Now you get Text Anytime, Talk Anytime or Talk
Offpeak free monthly allowances but you can't use a combination of all
three. Current offerings at:-

That's what I used to have and it was excellent, I've since been on contract
but it's very disappointing to find it's been withdrawn. I mean, who calls
and doesn't text or text but doesn't call?!

I have sent perhaps 5 texts so far this year, which is 4 up on the
previous year and they were in response to texts. I prefer to email cos
it's cheaper and can write proper words, not into txting.
Re the 100 mins for £10, pity O2 withdrew that, I suspect that it was
because a lot of people were using the 100 free mins and only eating
into some of their paid credit. Although, the money was still sitting
in O2's account waiting to be used it would have been a big no-no on
the balance sheet as a big debt. The new tariff of 50 mins of anytime
xnet minutes before your credit starts to get used is obviously not as
good as 100 but better than a kick in the teeth.
My wife is switching from Virgin and was spending £9 month on about 60
minutes with a few xnet at 30p min. With this O2 rate she will be still
be in credit with the same useage and then after 6 months the 'Treats'
kick or so I understand which should mean than she will get more 'free'
minutes.
Anyone know what the 'Treats' are for the £10 monthly top up in voice
/ text /data? Had a quick look but couldn't see.
Regards

The new Tariff's for o2 seem to be rubbish.
Get Tesco Mobile (runs on o2 network) instead
http://www.tescomobile.com/simCards.aspx
If you can topup £15 a month, calls are just 10p per min and SMS's are
5p/min. That works out 100 mins of calls and 100 SMS for £15 or just
150 mins of calls, whatever you prefer. This is the extra tariff, You
must topup every 30 days however.
The Tesco value tariff is also very good, 15p/min for all calls and 5p
SMS.
Alternatively, T-Mobile now have a 12p/min "everyone" tariff with 10p
SMS messages.
We sell all these simcards (except Tesco) , guide is here
