Just popped an easy mobile sim into an unlocked nokia 3310 and got the
above error message. The 'phone used to be locked to orange, I unlocked it
to take my vodafone sim. Any ideas why it would reject the new sim?

The same thing happended to me, the first time I unlocked a phone - also
an Orange 3310, as it happens!
There were TWO unlocks necessary (I haven't found that on other phones,
just Orange ones)- the first unlock was successful, and I didn't realise
that I hadn't completed the second one. Once I entered the second code,
the phone worked fine.

Hmmm.. not sure i follow. The 'phone was one of those Orange free (Boots i
think) offers. I thought it was unlocked as my vodafone sim works fine in
it. Are you telling me it needs further unlocking to run an easymobile sim?
How does it tell the difference?

The SIM may be faulty or easyMobile haven't sent the signal to wake it
up.

At vodafone there is a 2nd lock that used to be done on handsets.
One was a network lock so the phone would only accept a vodafone sim
card and the other was a GID1 lock, this means that the phone would
only accept a Vodafone pay as you go sim card, maybe the phone has
the same kind of lock on it?
