Orange Roaming Query

I have an old Orange mobile which has international roaming switched
on. Recently I bought a an new, unlocked phone and transfered the old
SIM card to the new phone.

I'm going to Romania next week. I've checked that the new phone
conforms to the standards used in Romania. Will the new phone now work
OK abroad or do I have to inform Orange about the change of phone
before I go ?

The account is connected to the SIM not the phone. As long as the phone
works on the bands in use where you're going (and there is a roaming
agreement in place..!) then it will work.

Be warned though if you lose it or it is stolen, Orange can be a tad funny
about it. While they will bar the SIM, they may not bar the IMEI of the
handset should it be lost or stolen, unless it was bought from them. I had
to threaten them with a letter from my MP before they did it for me when I
was mugged and had my unlocked non-Orange-bought phone stolen.

If you intend quite a bit of use, it would be worth getting a local SIM
card there, as Orange roaming costs in non-EU Europe actually increased
when they announced their cheaper rates recently - well over £1 a
minute

networks. I notice they all have favourite number tariffs, so if you
can find a calling card to use ...... or use a callback service with it

I had issues with the Orange price rise, too. Found out virgin
PAYG with direct debit would work out a couple of hundred quid cheaper
during my month abroad

Interestingly, the new Tesco PAYG roaming rate for most of Europe
calling back to UK has been reduced to 40p/min. This is very
competitive compared to many contracts. The Tesco SMS charge from
abroad is still more expensive than the Virgin 25p however.
