What's your current favourite phone?
I fancy getting a new one (Orange contract) and I'm a bit out of touch at
the moment and trying to get a feel for the current options.
Cheers.

I'm afraid my favourite phone won't help you if you insist on a *new*
one..! The Nokia 6310i is the best phone ever made and I'll keep using
mine until it falls to bits, then I'll get the new unsused spare out of
its box..!

I used to have one of those and couldn't fault it. As you say, even
today these are probably the best out there, in terms of call quality
and battery life I don't think anything beats it. In fact I can't work
out why I got rid of it when I think about it.
I've just got a Nokia 6230i myself, great little phone that so far does
a good job at being a phone unlike my MDA Compact (AKA iMate Jam) which
is probably the 2nd Worst phone I've ever had.
Cheers,
DWan.

I'd probably agree that the 6230i is about as good as they get for a
'business class' phone. I might just edge towards the SE K750i, but I've
been impressed with my first 24 hours of 6230i ownership.

I agree, mine dropped to bits, which is a shame, I miss the battery life of
5+ days, and it had lots of fancy features too.
I've had a 3230 since which is all fancy smartphone but the battery wouldn't
exceed 48 hours and died 1 month after my contract expired.
I'm on a 1100 now and I'm liking that better as a phone than my 3230. But I
do miss some of the features, especially sat nav.

I've switched back to my 6310i from a brief dalliance with a Jamin
(2005 Jam). Poor phone, poor PDA, good email and webbrowser.
6230 is ok but keys are more difficult to use - poor feel and too close
together, screen is not great outdoors. nasty press to select joystick
thing. New Nokia E50 and E60 look promising.
Your other option is to get the most valuable phone you can and eBay
it, buying a recon 6310i (or even new - still some on eBay) with the
proceeds and pocketing the rest.

6310i yes. I have just reluctantly replaced mine after 4 years of use
and the new one has nowhere near as good call quality. Also the
bluetooth stack was implemented correctly on the 6310i and is not on my
new samsung D500 (can't initiate a dial up connection with my PDA).
My next phone may be a Nokia again.

Nokia 5110 - solid as a rock, can be dropped without it keeling over,
heavy enough to know if you`ve dropped it immediately...
Oh, and it stopped being available about 5 years ago :-}

I'll second Ivor Jones...
The Nokia 6310i
Sure it doesn't have all the toys on it like modern phones. But, the talk
time goes on forever, standby time must be close to 2 weeks !
It's rugged ... I've dropped mine from half way up a cell mast - it survived
(once I'd refitted the battery) ;o)
It was designed with the business user in mind, and fits the bill perfectly
!
Nokia used to have the business users market wrapped up - 5110, then 6110,
then 6310i
Nokia made its biggest mistake with ceasing production of the 6310i without
having a decent replacement.

I've heard rumours of its' reintroduction, but no confirmations. Anyone
else heard the same..?

I agree with the many comments on the 6310i. Managed to get a spare on
a cash back deal from CPW about four months ago. The deal was only on
their web page for one day before they sold out. Phone was listed as a
refurb but looked brand new when it arrived. Has worked perfectly
since.
I have that one in use and another almost brand new sitting in it's
box as a spare/replacement.

I had a 6230i, and received a k750i as an upgrade. Have a look at the specs,
and get used to the k750i interface, which is still as simple as the
6230i's, but of course, not Nokia, and you will love it.

Well, not completely. The one aspect it fails in is it's bad bluetooth
implementation, in all firmware versions.
If you have a search for 'bloover' on a search engine, and perhaps try to
steal all the phone book info, SMS's, and tonnes of other stuff from your
6310i, when bluetooth is enabled, then you will get a big surprise.
I didn't believe this 'proof of concept' tool worked, but to my surprise it
took all it said it would in the options menu.
I've got the old version on my other mobile, it says it can 'snarf
phonebook, snarf sms, add a phonebook entry, set your call forward number,
initiate a voice vall', and I believe the new version has other gumph.
The most worrying for me would be SMS's, my commercial contacts in my
phonebook, and initiating a voice call. Okay, so it's an 0800 in the
application that cannot be changed without a certain knowledgable effort.
However, still a great phone!

I'm well used to SE phones - my last one was a K700i.
I'm stuck with Nokia, though, 'cos my car has a Nokia kit.
I'd prefer a K750i if I had a choice, though.
