Got new K800i from O2 and have set Delivery Reports to "on" for text
messages but not getting any when sending ;( Is there a secret code or
button to push or does a droid have to activate it from their end.
Cheers

NO... You have to turn them off, to get a report you put *0# before the msg.

No they don't use the standard reports, you have to put *0# then leave a
space before every message.

Found on the net:
Start a new text message and before you begin type
*0# followed by a space and begin your message, the other person does not
see the code but you will get a message back saying when it has been
delivered.
Try it without the space, as it may not be required!

I don't know why people are saying use *0# then space... If you do a
space the person getting the message gets a space at the start as far as
i know.. It used to work for me without the space, and looks much better
ont he phone of the person receiving the message

Just found 2 other workarounds
1 Simply add the *0# as a template in your phone
2 On the SE K800i type the *0# and then add it to "My Words" then all you
need type is "101" before the main body of text as "My words" will change it
to *0# for you.
Just tried it and it works - stil a pain but not so bad.
Also never used a space after *0# and it looks fine.
Does anyone know if the *0# is taken from the 160 characters of the text?
ie leaving 157 characters for the message or do you still get the full 160>

Re: O2 - Do they do "Delivery Reports" for text messages?
Yes, I think the *0# is taken from the 160 characters of 1 message. I
tried typing a full 160 character message and then added *0# at the
beginning so on my phone it went onto a new page (2nd message). When I
sent this, I was charged for 2 texts.

Space is definately _not_ required.

That's cos o2's message centre servers are run on a mop bucket.

Second thing if you're used to the tape-loop icon you get with T-Mobile and
Orange for voicemail then get used to a standard text message from O2. Or
worse, it rings you again after your missed call to say they've left a
voicemail!
