I've just bought a new laptop with an embedded Voda 3G card, so I
called Vodafone to activate it. The tubby took my details and said
he'd call me back after the credit check. After 30 minutes he called
and told me I'd need to send them a postal order, landline bill and
bank statement.
For some odd reason I didn't really understand the requirement for a
postal order, so he checked again and decided it was a purchase order.
I reminded him that he'd already established that I was buying in a
private capacity but he was adamant, so (as I was on a train) I asked
chime to email me to confirm the requirements.
When I got home I replied to the email, asking again what use a PO
would be from a private citizen. Vodafone decided that they agreed
with me, and have said that all they need now id 'proof of my
signature' (whatever that is) and two utility bills.
I'm on the electoral roll, have a good credit score and have even been
a Voda customer in the past. Is this level of proof now normal for
Voda?

Good chance that it's not with Vodafone Direct, last time all these
free data cards were about, they were all being connected through a
company called genesis communications. If they're using a shonky
credit reference agency then there might be something missing on there.
If all they want is that then I'd just send it 'em, it's better than em
telling you to bugger off like they'll probably do to me! hehehe

Hi Ken,
When you set up an account with Vodafone, you should only need to
provide us with proof of ID and residence.
This could be a credit card, driving license and utility bills.
I've spoken with our credit assessment department and they've advised
me that you'd only need to provide a postal order, landline bill and
bank statement if you're applying for a business account.
I'd phone them back to re-apply.
I hope this helps.
