Have an N70 with Orange at the moment. Its Rubbish.

Which of the new nokia's are any good??

Of particular importance is quick response to button presses- the N70 seeems
to have the processing speed of a dead worm.

Something as fast as the 6230 for instance.

    N80? 6233? 6280?

    Thanks in advance

    Tim..

Get it de-oranged with the latest firmware, this helped the responsivness of
    mine no end.

Your local nokia service center should be able to do this for you.

Yes, you can do it yourself here:
    <http://www.nokia.co.uk/nokia/0,1522,,00.html?orig=/softwareupdate>

(do not forget to backup your phone memory before updating your firmware).

Should be noted that the updates are done on a product code basis,
meaning if you had your Orange N70 debranded you will end up with
Orange firmware again, same is true if you had the language pack
changed, it will be restored to what it originally was and also if
your handset is/was branded it might not always get the latest
    firmware.

Agreed, now that the joystick issue appears to have been sorted! I'd quite
like to upgrade my k750i, but it does everyone I need a phone to do very
well, and the software PC suite seems to have been thought out in quite a
lot of detail, unlike samsung & nokia's offering.

Ditto, the Nokia PC suite is also as rubbish as the phone! Crashy, buggy and
just wont do seemingly simple things like back up your calender along with
    all the other settings?!

Can see I am going to have to spend longer than I thought at the shop trying
    afew out.

    Thanks,
    Tim..

Maybe a late post.. but.. I consider responsivness of a handset to be
paramount and I've just taken hold of a Nokia 6233 on Orange and it's the
fastest phone I've used since the 6110 way back when (... 1997 I think)...
it's a very quick handset, stalls ever so slightly enumerating the images
folder on the memory card but once it's done, it's a flying machine. I've
not used the other models you've listed but it's faster than a 6280 and N80
by a mile. Can't speak for it's other features, only had it a day, but it is
very fast, and I've loaded the memory card with the contents of my old phone
first as a compartive test. :-)

Thanks Jonathan, this is exactly the real world type of report I want to
    hear.

It appears that Orange are out of stock of the 6233 at the moment, but I am
going to call by a shop today and see if I can roadtest one.

    Many thanks,

    tim..

I liked my 6230 (after I had the firmware upgraded) better than my
    6233.

6230 was quicker and lighter, had better feel.

My 6233 is buggy as hell, has v3.70 firmware at the moment, v4.52 is
out but can't be asked to get it upgraded until I know my issue are
    fixed.

The Orange 6233 has a problem with the homescreen overriding active
standby and cannot be disabled (yet) AFAIK.

Hmmmm but the updater checks the net and downloads the firmware. What is to
say you couldn't trick the updater into bringing down a different branded
firmware. I might have to look into this.

It might be possible to change the product code using Phoenix before
using the updater, therefore when the updater looks for new firmware
you could in theory get the latest generic firmware.

Sounds pretty good if you have a branded and crippled handset, if it
    works that is. ;-)

    Re: Which Nokia??

    Hi,

on a slighly different note I have just been speaking to a vodaphone
customer services rep about the N80 and N91 as i wanted the N80. She
has informed me that they have stopped stocking both of these phones
due to 'software problems' as they have had so many returns.

Can anyone verify/shed anymore light on this? Does anyone know what the
    problems relate to?

I was keen on the N80 as it had wifi, does anyone any other phones with
    wifi, i couldnt find any.

    Cheers.
    Suki
