Usually that is correct, as you say it's locked to O2, so you have your
    answer, it's O2.

See www.trycktill.com - most Nokias can be unlocked for free.

You have 5 attempts only, so if you mess up, you'll probably need to
take it to a phone unlocking shop to be done via cable.

He didnt say it was locked to O2, he said it was locked _for_ O2. That
    seems pretty clear to me.

If you are just going to mock the guy for posting a perfectly clear message
in what does not appear to be his mother tongue then I am forced to ask
myself just who, exactly, is the prick in this thread...

Pete - if you post the 15 digit IMEI number of the handset then an unlock
code can be generated for it relatively easily.

The IMEI number will likely printed under the battery somewhere, or can
usually be displayed by entering *#06# on the handset.

My little generator app says it can do the 6682 based on the IMEI, and it
has never lied to me yet! Well, except for saying that it will run on
    Windows 98...

    1. Posting an IMEI on an open newsgroup is asking for trouble.
    2. The phone is a BB5 and can only be unlocked by the original network,
    hence the question.

So if that is pretty clear to you, perhaps you could explain what you
think it means to the rest of us.

    OK... for the hard of thinking;

    He has a Phone

It is sim locked to a particular service provider

He would like it not to be

He thinks in order to have it unlocked he needs to know which service
    provider it is locked to

He invites comment on his situation

    Is that any clearer?

does it work with a O2 card?

Maybe the phone has been barred due to be reported stolen.. quite common if
    you got one from ebay
