I spoke to two different Orange CS staff (both of which had been
employed for under 4 weeks) who confirmed with their team leaders that
Orange no longer offer OVP tariffs! I was enquiring about upgrading my
existing OVP tariff to another one, but was advised that if I move off
I can't move back due to OVP no longer being offered. "You can go to a
£35 per month package, sir.." NO THANKS! Pay £35 for a new tariff
when I pay under £17 for my line 1 tariff and about £10 for my line 2
    tariff?

Is Orange still the best network out there? What a shame, after all
    these years...

Anyone else experienced this? Have we dedicated Orange customers got a
plan up our sleeve? Bring back the old Orange! Bring back the Talk 120
tariffs for £25 per month with 6p per text message. Bring back ED50
for £15 per month with 1p for off-peak calls. Bring back Virgin OVP..
bring back ANY OVP ... !!!

    - a frustrated long-term Orange customer -

Leave, most old time Orange customers have.

I will never go back while they charge 1p for delivery reports. Too
many simplifications for my liking. They have over the years removed
every single service that differentiated them from the rest. The only
    thing left is Line 2.

The number of customers connecting to OVP has fallen off drastically to
a point where it's not worth offering it anymore.

I'm not surprised, they stopped keeping them up to date with other networks
tariffs and stopped advertising it, then their excuse is that customers wont
use it so kill it off.

Its happened before with other stuff.

    ....Vodafone me thinks

Maybe there was a bit of that, and yes it wasn't amazingly up to date,
but also I think it might be because their own tariffs are now somewhat
    more competitive.

I totally disagree. How can their own tariffs be more competitive when
others out there are still able to offer packages with 200+ minutes for
under £30 a month for only a 12 month contract? That's not including
the off-peak tariffs that are still offered by competitors - Orange has
killed off their off-peak tariffs, not mentioning Orange has only one
tariff under £25 per month! Their tariff pricing is completely wrong.
    >From 5p per minute for an off-peak national call on Talk 60/120/200/etc

to 15p! Off peak calls to other networks used to be 12p per minute, now
only more than 3x that for 35p per minute!!

As ACDeag correctly mentioned, they have removed nearly every offering
that made Orange what it is. I was proud to work for Orange a few years
back, in retail I might add. I could offer customers tariffs and
services they could not match elsewhere. The only thing Orange was poor
on was handset choice and price. Now they're poor at handset pricing
AND tariff choice! Orange will only offer you anything above their
mid-range handset if you tie yourself up for 18 months. Oh, and they'll
give you a few more minutes for an 18-monther as well. What's that all
about? Handset prices these days are cheaper than ever: the cheapest
PAYG they used to sell was £120, you can get a Nokia 6230i (with
colour screen and camera, I might add) for £140 as a SIM-free handset!
Networks used to exuse themselves for charging over £15 per month for
a few lousy minutes due to subsidising the cost of the handset. How can
that explain fewer minutes for more money??

I don't think you or Orange (if you're not one and the same) have got a
leg to stand on. Admittedly, other networks offer the best deals for
new customers, but their standard packages still fare well compared to
the "animal" packages. That does not excuse Orange for stripping their
services down leaving us with nothing but beige tariffs that are no
better than the competition. Where's the incentive for staying at
    Orange?

If you ask me, they're getting the average Joe to pay for their 3G
licenses and infrastructure with £25 a month for 75 minute
    packages....

Looks like I'll be looking at leaving.. once the 18-month contract they
tied me into at the last upgrade will run out...

    1. It was no longer advertised, and hardly mentioned anywhere.

    2. Orange only OVP the less good deals in any case. Anything that was
    good value was not matched.

    3. Seems that Orange don't give a **** about customer loyalty or care
about providing the best services as they used to. They just want lots
    of money from their customers

They were certainly happy to give good matches to high spend users until
recently, I set a chum up with O2 Max last year with 1000mins for 75quid
and in the last few months they offered a FlexT match with 1600 odd mins
for the same money to stay, far better than anything on their own books.
That is for a high spender of course so your comments about only caring
about revenue is a valid one.

Well, business is booming at the moment, so they must be doing something
    right.

    > I was proud to work for Orange a few years back, in retail I might add.

    Cool. Which shop?

    > Now they're poor at handset pricing AND tariff choice!

So why are we connecting more than we've ever done before?

    > Orange will only offer you anything above their
    > mid-range handset if you tie yourself up for 18 months. Oh, and they'll

I think you mean "a lot more minutes"

    > What's that all about?

    Making money!

    > How can that explain fewer minutes for more money??

Fewer? I've worked for Orange for nearly 5 years. In that time we've
never offered 500 minutes and unlimited landline calls and free
broadband for £35 per month. It's got better, not worse.

Old Talk 500 used to be around £58.75 per month if I remember correctly.
And that was only to landline and Orange.

    > That does not excuse Orange for stripping their services down

I can't say I was overly chuffed about some of the myself, but most of
the service chaps made commercial sense. I miss wildfire, but nothing
    else.

    > leaving us with nothing but beige tariffs that are no
    > better than the competition.

Chuck in free broadband and it suddenly gets a lot better.

    > Where's the incentive for staying at Orange?

We're no different that the rest, so by the same token whats the point
    in moving?

    > If you ask me, they're getting the average Joe to pay for their 3G

If that was even a real tariff you might have a valid argument. Unless
you refer to the on-line 75 minute / 600 text tariff? You conveniently
forget to mention the 600 texts.

Even when it was I very rarely connected anyone to an OVP tariff.

Like any sensible business? Providing good services is all very well,
but Orange are here to make money, are they not?

True, but annoying existing customers to the point where they leave is
hardly good business practice, is it..?
