Please can someone tell me what I need for below.

I have a good size IPAQ PDA with wifi & bluetoooth. It gives good internet
access via hotspots. But wifi hotspots are rare where I llive, so I'd like to
get a bluetooth phone & use it as a modem for occasional "dial up" internet
    access on the PDA screen.

Do I just use the same access number as I would from a landline, or do I
have to get a phone with both bluetooth and web browsing GPRS/WAP service on
the phone (even though I'll be using the PDA) and would that limit what I
    can see?
The mobile providers sites seem to only talk about that option, but it
looks expensive..as well as hard to see.

I just want a (slower ) version of what I can do with a wifi hotspot .

    Thanks

I do this all the time, Acer N50 PDA and Nokia 6230 phone. Yes your phone
does have to be set up to do GPRS via the operator's internet APN, not
WAP-only like some "surf all you want" cheapo deals. It is no way unusual on
a phone however and the Nokia (or whoever) or Vodafone (or whoever) 's
website can usually offer you the ability to remote-configure the internet
APN into your phone by a special-format text message.

Make sure your phone is paired with the PDA, then use your PDA menus to
create a new dialup connection (on mine Windows Mobile 2003 SE it's called
"connect to the internet via phone" in the Bluetooth Manager) and you need
to specify the "number to dial" as *99#

Set up a new connection on your PDA using "bluetooth modem" as the
device, *99# as the dial up number with username and password blank,
servers and IP auto-assigned. You may also need some settings in the
phone, this will depend on what phone/network you use.

Thanks, so as long as I have a bluetooth phone, with GPRS, I'll be able to
surf and get proper web sites - or woudl it just be limited addresses or cut
    down versions suitable for phones?

It sounds like I'd be paying per byte, not per time, so I'd need to find a
    capped tariff.

No it would be pretty much full access (some operators may restrict
things slightly). I've used this setup with my PDA and also with a
    laptop without a problem.

    Re. tariff
    - Orange PAYG offer 'Orange World' at £1/day as an extra - you need to
buy it in advance & it's limited to 2G speeds
    - T-Mobile PAYG offer 'Web'n'Walk' as their GPRS service - you pay as
you use but they cap the charges at £1 so you can use it as much as you
like (within reason!) without worrying about the costs going up. They
also offer 3G speeds - although strictly this is just meant to be for
phone browsing. Doubt they'd be too bothered about usage for PDAs but
might start to ask some questions if you use it with a laptop. Given
the speed boost and the freedom to not have to remember to buy an extra
in advance I probably prefer the T-Mobile solution.
