I am going to be travelling to London for 8 days. I would like to get the
CHEAPEST possible pre-paid SIM card for while there. Anyone with
suggestions? I really only need to RECEIVE calls and yes, my phone is
    UNLOCKED.

It makes no difference whatsoever which Network you use if all you will
    be doing is receiving calls.

If people are ringing you it'll be them paying all the charges.

If people will be ringing you from the UK from their landline, it would
make sense for you to have an O2 sim - O2 may be cheaper for them to
    call.

Err, no. You don't pay anything for incoming calls in the UK, nomatter
where they originate (reverse charge calls excepted!|). In the above
instance, the caller would pay the premium for the international call.

O2 Sim card. All UK sim cards have free incoming calls while in the UK.

You're from USA? (Guessing from the Verizon address). If so, not only must
your phone be unlocked but must also be able to run on 900MHz and 1800MHz.
The O2 SIM cards recommended elsewhere in this thread will work on 900MHz,
though coverage will be better if you can also use 1800MHz.

If your phone can do 1800MHz but not 900MHz then O2 would be a bad idea.
In that case get a Virgin Mobile SIM. Free incoming calls, and calls back
to USA are 20p/min billed per second.

(For the UK folks, I've seen 850/1800/1900 phones...)

    Virgin.
And the sim will most likely work when you come back in a few years (as
    will the remaining credit).

Yes - a number of Nokia tri-bands are 850/1800/1900 for the US market,
and 900/1800/1900 for the European market.

US family members with 850/1800/1900 tribands use Orange when in the UK
    - and Orange now have a new PAYG plan, where calls to the US from the
UK, are only 5p per minute. Free to receive, of course. The Orange
website has SIMs available for (IIRC)only GBP 1, including P&P, to UK
    addresses.
We keep a couple of unlocked 900/1800 phones and O2 SIMs for areas not
covered by Orange, but really only find them necessary in certain remote
    parts of the Highlands.

No, in the UK you pay nothing at all tyo receive calls on a
mobile/cell phone -0 wherever the call originate from (providing you
use a UK SIM card - I can't comment on the cost of receiving a call if
a US SIM card is used)

Dependent on your usage of course. Hutchinson's 3 gives 500 mins for £25
which comes to 5p per minute. Many international call cards charge less
than 1p per minute to call the US, hence making this <6p per minute overall,
though you'd probably need to buy a new phone to use a 3Network USIM card,
though these are dirt-cheap. Other companies do similar offers for Pay as
you go customers with more conventional SIM cards which will fit normal
unlocked phones. As others have said, incoming calls using a UK SIM in the
    UK are always free.
