There isn't a universal one. The only UK network to offer this facilty
is Vodafone, *#100#.

It's not in the GSM spec, so to say "although it should" is quite wrong.

Why should it..? It's a Vodafone-specific code.

Some networks don't allow it, although it's a standard GSM network code
which the GSM Association agreed as an industry standard.

On some services (T-Mob/Virgin I think for one) the number is on the
SIM and will be found in the menu.
Otherwise, ring your landline number, let it ring one,ring off, then
dial 1471 from the landline number. Easy really.
