I am sure I saw some figures the other day (can't remember where) which
showed Orange has the smallest number of subscribers except for Three,
it made me think that I am also sure at some point a few years ago
didn't Orange hold the top spot? If so it shows how far they have
    fallen.

I used to be an Orange customer and so did all my friends, now hardly
    any use Orange.

Over paid, over rated, FT Orange bean counters want rid of their low users,
hence the killing of OVP, ED50 and OVP Virgin.

They have put no or little value on incoming calls, and future brand loyalty

Give it time, their days are numbered, one day FT will get a CEO
who will realise what a liability they are.

Can you imagine Tescos, etc banning customers and alienating them
cos at the time they might be low spending.

It's the economics of nastyness and madness

    It's all about profitability, though.

In the same way that a supermarket wouldn't maintain a loss-making site
just to maintain brand loyalty and to be nice to their customers.

If well run they wouldnt have a loss making site

3rd rate FT Orange management have taken Snooks most popular
and successful network in the UK, and made it what it is today.

Seems the UKs biggest export is 3rd rate management

    That's not always the case.

A whole multitude of things can happen which leads to a store becoming
loss-making - including new competition opening locally.

Whilst not wanting to defend Orange - they're in the business of making
money, not keeping low-spending and loss-making customers happy.

I understand that it's often better to concentrate on more profitable
accounts - fewer, higher margin customers will lead to significant
    savings through operational efficiencies.

    Ditto.

In my eyes, Orange doesn't exist anymore. Haven't for a number of years.....
I mean, when you think about it, what's 'Orange' about 'Orange' anymore?????

I know that times change, and all companies are under increasing pressure to
make ends meet, but Orange is a very good example of a *good* company, gone
    very bad.....

The purpose of a business is to provide what its customers want. If
customers don't get this from one company, they will go elsewhere to one
    that can deliver.

    Ditto again.

Once all my family and relations were on Orange. Some of these were
fairly big spenders including people who purchased company phones for
    employees.

The only Orange phones my family now have are four OVP Virgin accounts
which make Orange nothing and we shall hang on to as long as humanly
    possible.

They'd certainly maintain a loss-making site to maintain a presence and
to stop a rival from taking over the site.

In the same way, I wonder why, at one point, Clintons Cards had 5 stores
in my local town - all within 2-3 minutes walk of each other.
Waterstones had 3 stores after purchasing Ottakars, now reduced to 2
(within 1 minute walk of each other).

Unless a supermarket chain is having significant problems, it's likely
that its in their interests to maintain lower profit (or loss making
stores) to keep those people in the habit of shopping there. Once a
customer starts shopping regularly elsewhere, they tend to stick. Those
customers may move house or something in the future - and keeping them
    on-side is worthwhile.
