I have a pre-pay Nokia 2310(?) on o2 and had it unlocked so I could
use it with my tmobile contract sim. It worked for a week but today
    it's showing no coverage.
I took the battery & sim out, put them back in and swiched it on and
it showed a couple of bars for a few seconds then they disappeared.

Could either o2 or tmobile have blocked the phone it for
'unauthorised' use? Or could the unlocking have screwed up the
software on the phone? I'm not sure what unlockign does.

It's strange that it worked fine for a week and now it's not working.

I need a phone this weekend and it will be another week before I can
buy a new one if I have to replace it!

    Thanks.

Well, neither O2 or T-Mobile would have any legitimate reason for barring
the phone, so neither of them will have done anything. Unlocking a 2310 is
relatively straightforward with a JAF box (unlocking box) or similar so it
would be hard to think that it had affected the firmware (software).

The fact that your O2 sim works fine, shows the phone is working. It could
be that something is up with your T-Mobile sim card/contract, can you try it
in someone elses unlocked phone to test it? The fact that it works for a few
seconds, seems to indicate, that it does work, searches for the network
signal and then switches itself off, would indicate that the has NOT reset
the lock, but that the sim is buggered or T-Mobile has terminated it.

Could be the T-Mobile SIM, a local T-mobile transmission problem, or the
1800 MHz section of your 'phone has died. See if you can borrow/try an
Orange SIM from a friend. If it works, then that eliminates the 'phone.
