Yes, I'm still tempted by that. We are moving soon, to Scarborough, and
the coverage maps look better for T-Mobile down there.

Aye, thanks. I ended up getting Emily a Motorola on the Tesco PAYG when
I went shopping this morning. I've decided to cancel the Vodafone she
has, on account that they have not yet replied to my technical query
after two days. It came with £20 on it already, so hopefully should be a
while before that needs topping up.

I still have some credit on my Vodaphone, but I'll probably only get a
SIM for that, as the phone is only 5 months old.

A friend of mine, living Harrogate, often visits his cousin in
Scarborough. He has always been happy with T-mobile.

Righto, cheers. I'm going to use the credits on my own phone, and then
reconsider I think. I am tempted by that £15 for 500 minutes deal
    though.

Surely they use the same network as Fresh though, so the coverage is
    the same.

Be aware that if you bought the phone with a Tesco SIM it'll default to the
Standard tariff. Ring CS to switch to either Extra or Value as appropriate.
It's fairly straightforward to switch... I've not tried it but if you're on
Value and going on holiday you might be able to switch to Standard for a few
weeks to enable roaming, then drop down to Value when you're back.

You should find that the coverage, provided by the O2 network, is
pretty good. I have a Virgin SIM here, mainly for overseas use but
there are quite a few holes in the T-Mobile network coverage around
here, whereas the O2 network (Tesco) is fine.

If you are a low spend user you should find the Tesco service
adequate. Also, don't forget that you are not tied to the tariff that
you bought. You can ring them up and ask to move from the Standard to
the Value tariff or back again depending on which one you find suits
    the calling pattern.

Thanks for that, I hadn't noticed that little gem.

Cheers. As it happens, I just had a look at that again (prompted by the
reply from Theo), and I might see if she could save by using the 3
friends discount numbers first. If not, then it's off to the Value
    tariff.

Well, I finally got a response from Vodafone, and according to their
representative (in India I presume!), they don't have any 'technical
difficulties'. They actually suggested I use alternative means to top up
the phone. Fair enough, but I pay for broadband so I can manage all my
    administration online.

Oh well, that's one of the beauties of PAYG, we have a choice to change
    things at any time :-)
