    Hi,

I've just found out about T-Mobile's World Class which is a free add-on for
contract customers allowing you to make phone calls for 25p/min when in the
    Republic of Ireland:
    <http://www.t-mobile.co.uk/personal/pages.do/our-services/going-abroad/worldclass>

Not that bad. What the web site doesn't mention though (and no T&C in view)
is how much it cost to send text and *receive* calls when in the Republic.
I've sent an email to T-Mobile to enquire about that but just got an
automated reply stating that due to a "higher than expected number of
emails" I'd only have an answer in 5 days.

I need to know that pretty soon though so does anybody here knows how much
it costs to send SMS and receive calls in the Republic (or other countries
    covered) with World Class?

I agree there seems to be no info on World Class on the T-Mobile site, for
incoming calls. I'm across the border a lot and decided to get an O2 PAYG
SIM as, for £1.99 a month, all incoming calls are free, and data is charged
at UK rates. The saving soon pays for the monthly cost.

It means using an old phone for that, but still worth while.

Yes O2 PAYG is great for roaming voice and texts but but do you get full
internet access? They used to limit PAYG users to WAP, has that changed?

I'm not sure now, as it has been a while since I used them a lot. Back in
2005, and before O2 started charging, I used my PAYG Sim and my phone was a
modem for my laptop. I could browse freely, using gprs, but the likes of
NNTP were not available, nor mail beyond the O2 system.

Just got an answer from T-Mobile. So it turns out that receiving calls and
sending SMS with World Class is charged at the normal roaming rate :-( In
the case of the Republic of Ireland, this means that making a phone call
while roaming on Meteor (their partner network in Ireland) with the World
Class add-on will be charged at 25p/min but receiving one will cost
    50p/min...

Full email received from T-Mobile below:

    --- T-Mobile Email Reply ---

"Firstly, I'm pleased to advise that there's no monthly charge for
Worldclass, and you can have this if you're on a pay monthly price plan.

We have many Worldclass countries and within each Worldclass country
there's one preferred partner called the Worldclass partner network.

If you're in a Worldclass country and make a call to another Worldclass
country using the partner network, you'll be charged a flat rate of 55p per
minute (including VAT). But as you're aware, if you're in the Republic of
Ireland, using the Meteor network you'll only be charged 25p per minute
    (including VAT).

I'm afraid, the charges for receiving calls and sending text messages are
not reduced by using World Class. For more information about our roaming
    charges, please click here.

If you use a different network within the Worldclass country, you'll be
charged at the standard roaming rates.

In some cases, the flat rate is a lot cheaper than the usual roaming
prices. For example, a call from the USA (using T-Mobile USA) to the UK is
usually 90p per minute. Using Worldclass this charge is reduced to 46.81p
per minute (VAT is not applicable to non-EU countries).

Calls are charged for a minimum of 1 minute when making a call to or from a
Worldclass network. After the first minute, calls are then charged at 30
    second intervals.

Calls to voicemail and customer services from Worldclass countries are
    charged at Worldclass rates.

You might have to manually select the Worldclass partner network when
you're abroad. Your phone's user guide will show you how to do this."

This would obviously be reduced even more if using a US T-Mobile sim.
I don't know how much it is but on my Cingular it is about 25p a min for
a call back to the UK.

    Bob.

    Oh, as another thought.
If you own a US (German or other) T-Mobile PAYG sim would T-Mobile UK
give you some form of 'Customer Loyalty' discount??

Obviously the same question for O2, Vodamoan, Orange.
(I know 3 do the free calls on "3 foreign 3 networks")
