I played around with the Google gmail java app today. It's nice, but
I appear to have run up a couple of quid on my bill (pay monthly,
flext 25). A page on TMobile's site says:
Web'n'walk day pass on pay monthly plans....Charges of 0.73p per KB
apply until a maximum of £1 per day (midnight to midnight) is spent.
Not applicable to connection via circuit switch data (CSD).
Perhaps it's showing me what it costs before the £1 cap, but perhaps
I've accidentally connected via CDS. (I'd ring them now and ask, only
it's gone midnight).
When I went online I was offered about 4 options, and I chose the
default which was something like "tmobile wap2". Perhaps that's a CSD
option and I should have chosen something else. I'm using the Nokia
N70. Any ideas?

The N70 doesn't have an integrated modem and so you can't do CSD. ;-)

Yeah, I spoke to a CS guy who said it's not common any more so don't
worry about it. The £1 per day cap is pretty handy given how much
data I got through yesterday. I had to get it activated, though - the
cap is not enabled unless you got a tmobile account in the last few
months.

I wonder why (most) phones are no longer designed for CSD use. I'm forced to
use my old 7110 when I need to use CSD on the move - for example to log in
to an ISP account so that I can send IP locked SMTP mail.
Do any new Nokia phones come with a hardware modem capable of CSD
connection?
Gareth.

A much easier solution is to get yourself a gmail account, as you can
then use their SMTP server with authentication using any connection from
anywhere.
