I am using my nokia 5300 as a modem connected to my laptop using T
Mobile web n walk plus, it is showing a speed of 460Kbps, however the
surfing speed is very poor in reality on my laptop, I only have USB 1
as the connection, is this the cause of my lack of speed and if so is
there anything i can do to speed things up.

The 5300 is only capable of GPRS which typically gives throughput of
around 25-40kbps. The 460 figure is Microsoft being its usual unhelpful
self: Windows reports the maximum speed setting of the port rather than
the actual throughput being achieved.

460 is the speed that the phone is talking to your computer. It is not
the speed at which your phone is talking to the internet.
There is nothing you can do to speed it up.
