I think I need a Linux expert and a mobile phone expert for this one!

I have an Nokia 770 and trying to connect to the internet via my Samsung
    SGH-X820.

I can pair them Ok and set the N770 up to use Vodafone GPRS internet.
However the DUN fails. I have found this page

    http://maemo.org/community/wiki/BluetoothDUN

It discusses DUN with the N770 and says about the X820 -

"DUN seems to be broken, PPP connection is failing. Power users can fix this
manually by adding receive-all flag. Add 'receive-all' to
'/etc/ppp/options'. You may or may not want to disable PPP compression."

I have no idea how to do this. Any help would be welcomed!

For £74 yes! It's amazing for that price! I got mine from Expansys.

    Mine was delivered yesterday.

I've spent quite a lot of time tweaking it the last 2 days.

So far, I've upgraded it to N800 firmware, got a Bluetooth keyboard
working with it, installed Abiword and GNUMeric (for editing MS
documents), and have PIM software on it (an iCal-alike calendar and
    address book).

Have to say I'm very impressed so far.

It's just a shame that Nokia didn't implement USB host mode so it could
support external drives and USB keyboards.

Yes, I know there are workarounds, but they're a bit fiddly.

    Ok sorted!

    Install Xterm
    Become root
Use nano to edit the options file and reboot

    Now works a treat!

Connect to the WiFi network to surf and check email etc is set up in
minutes. Accessing your PC takes a little longer

    *wow* excellent price.

Now... what can I do with it? Can I use some kind of Remote Desktop
Connection tool so that I can log into my Windows Vista PC, what's the
on-screen keyboard like, does it recognise Palm-style script or can I
do handwriting on it... can I get an ebook reader for it...!!

That doesn't appear to be working with the IT2007 OS, unfortunately.

It can effectively replace your PDA, if you install some free Linux
applications. Also does messaging, again with free Linux apps, erm and
    loads of other stuff.

It's a Linux device, so you're only limited by the applications that are
    being ported over.

    Have a look at http://maemo.org

    > Can I use some kind of Remote Desktop
    > Connection tool so that I can log into my Windows Vista PC,

    Yes.

    > what's the on-screen keyboard like,

Better than it is on most Windows Mobile devices, but it's still crap.

Get a cheap foldable Bluetooth keyboard.

    >does it recognise Palm-style script or can I
    > do handwriting on it...

It has handwriting recognition, but I haven't tried it, 'cos I have a
    folding BT keyboard.

    > can I get an ebook reader for it...!!

    Yes.

The only downsides are lack of USB host support and the memory slot only
takes relatively expensive RS-MMC cards - which also means you can't
just swap a 1GB SD card from your camera into it to view your shots.

You have flashed to the 2007 OS/N800 Firmware - can you install Skype?

    http://www.skype.com/intl/en-gb/down...e/mobile/n800/

If you have not could you try it for me. If it does install I will upgrade
my firmware but I will need a bigger memory card first as the firmware will
not fit on the 64mb one it comes with!

Is the N800 firmware easy to install - I presume you used this one

1GB RS-MMC cards are £4.99 at SVP at the moment. The 2GB ones are showing
as out of stock but are apparantly £8.60 delivered.

    Oh, that's interesting.

I'm sure I paid more than that (I have a feeling it was double what an
equivalent SD card would have cost) - I may have to buy a few 2GB cards
to distribute around my various cameras / camcorders.

AND, if you click on 'Bundles' on that Nokia 770 Expansys page you get
    one with a 1Gb RS-MMC for £77.95
