The gmail application on my phone doesn't permit this. The option
isn't listed.

I assumed that if your phone supported email, you'd be able to set it up
to use Gmail SMTP. However, I've just tried it with my K800 on T-Mobile
and it just stays at the "Finding server" stage. Is this a T-Mobile
issue?

They use non-standard port numbers. Check your settings.

I have sorted it. it was'nt actually i phone i was
using, it was my pda over the hotel wi fi
connection.
I had tried using mobile outlook connecting to my
pop3/stmp server, would would not connect, i have
now tried the gmail pop3/stmp server, without
changing port numbers, the pds connects ok to
send, but not receive. problem solved.

Why not access gmail via the web browser mail.google.com or setup the phones
email client (Remember gmail uses secure SSL connection, so:-
pop.gmail.com (Port 995)
smtp.gmail.com (Port 465 or 587)

Thanks. I forgot to set SSL for POP. However, I had used 587 for SMTP
which didn't work but 465 was successful.
