Going abroad for a week and want to take my laptop to access the web.
I have a Fujitsu Loox phone which can act as a modem.

    T-mobile charge £7.50 per megabyte
    O2 pre-pay charge £15 per megabyte

T-mobile and O2 web add ons do not cover for international data.

I am certainly not going to pay those silly rates. Does anyone know of a
sim package I could use for the week that would give me unlimited browsing
without having to worry about the cost?
I don't even mind paying a one off fee of £30 or so to give me access. I
won't be using a lot of data, but I do not want any shocking bills.

Which country are you visiting? Remember 3 PAYG SIM can have Internet Add-on
    applied?

Canary Islands, which is considered Spain.
The O2 pay go can have internet applied as a bolt on but it cannot be used
for data abroad. Can the 3 sim be used for data abroad?

Ah, I don't think the 3UK PAYG sim can be used for data abroad, but you
could just buy a Spanish SIM out there (I've never data roamed abroad, well
at my expense anyway) or check out http://www.hotspot-locations.com for free
    wifi spots before you go?

There's supposed to be a hotspot where I am but it is served by the internet
cafe down the road and the signal doesn't reach where I am even though they
    advertise it does.
However I have a new laptop now, so the wifi inside may be stronger, so
worth checking it when I go.

I've never found a provider that offers anything like reasonable rates
for data while roaming. I think your best option is to get a local
pre-paid SIM in the country you are visiting.

    Hello..

Go to www.ebay.co.uk and check out item number 300176667173

This is a spanish vodafone sim card that works on a pre pay basis,
much cheaper than any uk based sim card. Ideal when going to Spain.
I'll be getting one for my next trip.

I was in Poland for a few days last week. Rather than pay the silly roaming
data rates that Vodafone charge, I bought a block wifi account from PlusGSM.
    900 minutes for 15plz (about £3).
You might be better off seeing if you can get similar where you're going ?

There are CanaryNet wifi spots right across the islands and its only about
20 euros for the week, unfortunately the nearest hotspot doesn't quite reach
the apartments where I am going (know from previous experience).

Thanks. I think that will be the best option. My phone is open to any
network anyway so I would not have locking issues. I think Movistar is one
of the networks out there so I will check their local shop.

Thanks for that. Looks like I'll be spending quite some time in Poland next
year, so one of those cards will be pretty useful.
