I've only been away from newsgroups for a few weeks, but I see some
things never change.

It's not worth the financial investment for that one single 3-4 hour
window in the entire year.
I hope you can understand that.

Dunno, ask someone in Indonesia, apparently they normally send 236
million texts per day, peaking at 419 million in festive periods
(compared to the 200 million the UK was predcted to send last night).

Scotland was the first place in the UK to get a GSM network, which was in
Edinburgh for the EU conference, they used the first model Motorola 'brick'
phones, now a collector's item!

The big point is whether the ratio 419/236 is comparable to the
equivalent in this country.

234m vs 60m population
73,5355 mi^2 vs 94,526 sq mi land mass

Actually those numbers were only for one of their networks (with 55%
market share).

I understand that networks overcharge for SMS. They could invest that
money in the necessary infrastructure.

But it's not worth it. People will still text their entire phonebook on
ney years eve weather it takes 2 seconds or 2 hours to deliver the
message. None of the UK network give any gaurantees about delivering SMS
in a timely manner.
Still having trouble understanding? I do hope you don't run your own
business.

Oh dear, well contact orange as this is a newsgroup, not orange customer
services. Why do you think the networks are busy. THINK!

We're talimg about Indonesia here, not China or India, the last census
in 2000 showed 206m, the 2007 estimate is 234m, where do you get a
billion from?

No idea. It just sort of popped into my head...
Woops.
However, see

for a slightly higher figure.
