I've used ZiPhone before, and colleagues have also used it without
issue. Just make sure you follow a write up on how to do it so iTunes
doesn't turn your iPhone into an iBrick when it wants to update the
    software.

    I did it on Thursday.
I have a Mac, with iTunes, and unbeknown to me, it will not work with
the iPhone, as the OS is too old. I wasnt too happy about that.
So, I needed to get the knackered old laptop out, thats the one with the
virtually dead backlight, so reading things can be difficult. This has
XP sp2, so will connect to the iPhone.

    Get your iTunes installed.
Download iLiberty, Ziphone, or any of the other programs that purport to
unlock it. I used iLiberty, as there are a few scare stories about using
Ziphone, I've no idea if they are true, but I didnt want to risk it.

Once that is installed, plug in your iPhone with iTunes already open.
    Start up your unlocking program.
Do whatever the unlocking program says.
It should do its stuff, and you then have an unlocked phone.
There are 1000's of online guides out there, if this isnt clear enough,
    Google it.
    Alan.

The above is what I did, using iLiberty+ , unfortunately you have missed out
one step. When you first connect your phone to iTunes ,update the phone
through iTunes and THEN run iLiberty+.

I ticked all the boxes in iLiberty+ ,then just let it do its thing, 5
minutes later , one unlocked iPhone

Unlocking it is the easy bit, but you need to be really careful now
about iTunes with software updates as you could turn it into an
    iBrick.

    Ziphone.

How do I now add applications and ringtones to it?

    Once again THANKS

Glad to be of service. Just be careful when Apple release another
upgrade for your phone via iTunes. If it prompts you to install a
software upgrade you need to say NO and then look at the ZiPhone
website to see what they suggest doing, this may mean your upgrade may
be delayed a bit but it's better than getting an iBrick.

    >How do I now add applications and ringtones to it?

You'll have an "Installer" icon on your iPhone's screen now along with
the other apps. Open the Installer app and have a look in there.

The only things I have installed are:

    Convert (converter app)
Flashlight (turns iPhone into a flashlight which is handy at night)
iFlickr (uploads your photos to Flickr)
Fring (MSN/Jabber/AOL/Etc IM client which also does stuff like Skype
SummerBoard (Your 'desktop' on the iPhone is called SpringBoard.
SummerBoard lets you install themes which liven up the look of your
    phone)

    >Once again THANKS

If it's been of worth to you then donate to the dude which makes it
via the ZiPhone website. It's his full time job!

Also if I just want to use this phone as it is now, as a ipod and phone etc
do I have to keep conecting to itunes, or can I just bypas that. I am quite
hapy with it the way it is.

    Thanks

Hmm, try opening iTunes then ZiPhone, connecting the iPhone and then
hit the "jailbreak" option again. Installer should now appear.

    I don't think there's any decent 3rd party iPod Touch/iPhone app at
the moment so I'd stick with iTunes to install music and stuff to it
    if I were you.
