Seems like it, after Orange mistakenly cancelled my contract a few weeks
    ago,
and i managed to get the exec office to re-subscribe me.
I can now get back into my online account and read my bills,
but I can't get the email registration server to give me a text
so i can re-register my cancelled email addy.

    I get:
    "email registration:
Congratulations you have successfully registered to Orange mail. You will
soon receive a text to confirm that the Orange email service is available
    for you to use."

And that's as far as i ever get :-(
the email registrations server doesn't even give me an error text

I've complained again to the exec office and am still waiting

I have to pinch myself to believe I'm not asleep and living a nightmare

I pity the poor bastards at the exec office, as they are now the only part
of Orange CS that's still almost working, and so will be snowed under

They're the Ryanair of CS in my experience, expect without the dirt
    cheap prices.

Orange CS used to one of the best with 24/7 UK centres,
    and several forward facing depts

Now look at the 8am to 10pm indian call centre toss ;-(

Do those morons now running FT Orange really believe the millions they're
spending on advertising, can even scratch the reality of word of mouth?!

Tell me about it. An hour on hold to try and sort them screwing me. It
was one of the main reasons I decided a contract wasn't worth the
    bother.

Do they advertise a lot? I'd be sort of embarrassed to, with those dumb
animal names, and equally dumb symbols.

They don't need to add that many BTS sites but they DO need to get
something sorted about handoff. IME Orange hangs on to a cell as long as
it can and then has no resources on the next cell so drops the call.

When we were on Vodafone I could drive from here to York in conversation
and it never drop out. On Orange it drops out four times always at the
same place, but even at the first place (the end of our road) there is
    plenty of signal - normally.

Can't be any worse than Orange - at least I might be able to use my
phone at home (central Manchester) without forcing it onto 2G. Plus...
    it's a "simplicity" one-month contract so if I don't like them I can
    bugger off somewhere else.

Incidentally, what makes you say that?

I wouldnt take out a O2 contract cos of O2s reputation for billing mistakes
    but O2 PAYT is fine

The rumours i've heard are Orange are going to bring in new management
to deal specifically with the CS problem.
cos their surveys are showing the lousy CS now offered
is the leading cause of customer churn

Interesting, so they are going to install 450 new BTS
Would that be cos they've removed more than that in the last 5 years
    during their 3g upgrade.

They don't need 60 new stores, they need to give CPW a free hand
as the other networks have, letting CPW supply unlocked GSM stock,
but with a Orange network sim pack.

It's sad the best CEO Orange can find, is the CEO of a parasite virtual
    network like Virgin

I hope he brings Orange.co.uk website in house with staff that are
    competent,
the website is any networks face to the world, and Oranges has always been
    crap
e.g. Has the online Orange PAYG registration site ever worked??
and they wonder why their CS is stretched

For a few years we were also on O2 - or Cellnet as it was then.

I would guess I got network busy about one in three calls - never got
that on Voda and rarely on Orange other than obvious site overloads like
    motorway pileups etc.

Cellnet was (and I believe still is) also good at dropping calls mid
stream for no apparent reason. By that I mean you are stationary, in
close proximity to a (known) O2 site with no possibility of another in
range (i.e. out in the Yorkshire Dales and I am a radcomms engineer so I
know the sites) and in conversation for several minutes and suddenly you
are talking to yourself. You attempt to redial and get network busy -
and this would happen almost daily!

Per your comment about 3G, how do you control that? The phones
(admittedly only a few) that I have used that have 3G give an option of
GSM only or GSM and 3G auto. Unless you are using it for web functions
or data downloading where the speed difference would be obvious, how do
you know whether you are talking on 2G or 3G?

That's not true. It was quite good in the days when Ben looked after it.

Then when it was outsourced to various colouring-in companies, it got
    worse and worse.

Now it's even worse than some of the competition.
