    Been with Orange for a while but was thinking of moving elsewhere so I had a
    rather pleasant experience when ringing them last night.

    Presently on £30 200 mins + Unlimited texts + 200 mins for life (from
    previous contract) + £8 30 Mb Data bundle. I noticed that Orange are now
    offering a £7.50 250 Mb bundle.

    Ran them up and a 'offshore' call centre answered. When I asked for the
    bundle the nice lady said that she could do better than that. She offered me
    600 mins + Unlimited Texts + Unlimited internet (prob 250 Mb limit) + 200
    mins for life for £30.

    Now if that isn't a bargain I don't know what is!!!!

    I know many have been quick to knock Orange but that phone call showed that
    all is not lost......!

    Don't get too excited. I wouldn't class throwing everything at a customer to
    keep them as an example of good customer service. It's just desperation.

    What definitely doesn't impress me is the limit of 250MB. '3' do 1GB
    for £5. I get 300mins/300 texts for £10 from Virgin. So the £30 deal
    isn't all that good really. The main slice of a tariff is usually
    paying for the phone by monthly installments. Once that is paid for,
    if you don't want to upgrade your phone, then the tariff can be made
    cheaper. Am I right in assuming that the cost to the operator, of
    sending a text message is just a fraction of a penny? If so, unless
    you are a teenager with an insatiable appetite for sending texts, you
    are unlikely to make all that much use of sending texts and, anyway,
    there will be a limit under a 'fair use' policy.
    The term 'unlimited' should mean just that or be banned from use.
    Personally I would much rather see the subsidised phone system cease
    and let us have tariffs totally separate from the phones. That way you
    could get the best price for the phone you want on the tariff you want
    and not have to mess with all the unlocking and operator branding.
    I would also like to see regulations such that, at least in Europe,
    if you have bought minutes in your own country than you should be able
    to continue to use them abroad.
    From what I can see '3' is the new Orange. By that I mean that Orange
    used to be good, now '3' wears that cap.

    I'm delighted with The Fruit at the moment after they offered me 1200
    minutes, 500 texts, and "unlimited" (250MB) internet for £20/month.
    It's for 18 months, not for life, but to be honest there will almost
    certainly be something better along by then (particularly on the
    internet access front).

    I'd previously been paying £51 per month for 750 minutes, 250 texts,
    10MB internet...

    They are definintely desperate to keep their punters right now so if
    you're out of contract, get on the blower!

    Well my contract doesn't end until March next year and that's why I was
    surprised at the offer I just wanted to change my bundles save 50p and have
    more data so it was refreshing to be offered what I was (with no extension
    of contract)

    So now I am paying £30 a month for 800 mins (I'll never use that), unlimited
    texts (send about 800 a month) and 250 Mb Mobile internet (which I will use
    only a small proportion of). In addition to that I pay £5 for unlimited
    broadband also with Orange.

    It doesn't seem too bad!

    Maybe they are getting desperate but if customers are happy then why should
    I critisise? I am happy and if they don't want to lose another customer by
    doing this then who am I to complain?

    registration server to give me back the address i've had for over 10 years,
    or even issue any email addy!

    To an extent I agree. When I first signed up to Orange in 1996 Orange were
    very innovative and I agree that many of these benefits have gone.

    However, surely the fact they are trying to keep customers shows that
    perhaps they have realised the inadequacies of the past few years and maybe
    just maybe are turning the corner.

    I am sure there will be times when I will be cross with them but for my
    Phone and Broadband they offer the best value for money for MY needs. I did
    go with O2 for my phone for about a year (still kept my Orange OVP SIM) but
    I found their coverage to be patchy. T-mobile still have ropey coverage
    although their web n walk package nearly tempted me away. '3' has been a
    possible thought but they didn't have the package I wanted.

    Don't get me wrong I've had my moments with Orange. Broadband was very ropey
    for a few weeks about a year ago and I had problems signing into 'my
    account' to access my mobile phone details but these have been sorted out
    within a relatively short amount of time.

    I may change my mind but at present find that Orange offer the best value
    for money for me.

    You can buy unbranded, unlocked, unsubsidised handsets, right now. You
    can buy short-term contracts and PAYG SIMs without handsets, right now.

    Well there you go. The fact that you can choose a better operator that
    lets you roam on their network abroad for the same price at home proves
    that that kind of regulation isn't necessary.

    I only ask becaus earlier this year, Orange didn't put in my upgrade
    contract the things they had agreed to on the phone. When I called up to
    complain, I was called a liar and when I denied it, I was told I was
    being abusive.

    That was CS *and* (surprisingly) Retentions. Executive Office sorted it
    though and sort of apologised.

    Well I guess I'll have to see won't I. I'll have a look what the next bill
    says. I would normally upgrade in December (3 months before the end of
    contract) so maybe I'll see what happens when I try that. To be honest at
    £30 a month for all that lot I suspect I'll be staying with Orange anyhow.

    However, I would be a bit pissed off if they won't let me upgrade at the end
    of the year.
